A+X #18 Review by (December 14, 2022)

Review: A story featuring Murderworld without Arcade? Bring it on, that guy was always annoying. Instead we have a sentient computer that wishes to die out of guilt for the crimes that it was used to commit. Interesting tale of guilt and, if not quite redemption, at least learning to live with the past and move on. Not your typical anti-suicide PSA and the pairing of the two heroes is one of the most unusual in this series which has admittedly had some odd guest stars, including Superior Spider-Man twice. But Kitty is always cute with the Vision being the AvengersMister Spock so the pairing turned out enjoyable after all. And the Cap/Cyclops epic wraps up with a return to comedy as the two heroes bicker, the Doombot prototype acts silly (though it isn’t clear why this character is there in the first place), and Dr. Strange and Tempus add some closing humor. A very nice series to cap off the title, no pun intended.

Comments: Final issue of the series. First story: Lockheed is pictured on the cover but does not appear in the story. Second story: Part six of six.

A+X #18 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Vision and Kitty Pryde suddenly awaken in a strange place that they quickly recognize as Murderworld. And both realize they are without their phasing powers. Kitty is attacked by ghastly versions of Professor X and other friends. Vision helps her destroy these robots until he is assaulted by robot Scarlet Witch and Ultron. They defeat all of the robot enemies and prepare to murder Murderworld by releasing a techno-virus that Vision always carries into the computer that runs the place. But Vision pauses when he sees someone. They discover the ghosts of all the people who have ever died in Murderworld—and see themselves wired into the machine. This adventure has been taking place inside their heads. They look for Arcade but he is not there; the host is the computer which has become sentient and wishes to die for all of the evil that has been committed in that place. Vision was chosen because he is also a machine used to kill against his will and Kitty because she understands computers and has seen the future holocaust of her people. But the heroes talk the computer out of suicide and advise it to learn from its guilt and go on with life, as humans do….

Synopsis: The team led by Cyclops destroys Doctor Doom’s lab in Latveria, as Emma Frost and the Stepford Cuckoos immobilize the guards mentally, Ant-Man (Hank Pym) picks up and miniaturizes a Doombot head for further study, and the Skrulls of Cadre K clear the way to the jet, accompanied by the Skrull/Doombot prototype….

Back at the farm, Captain America has disarmed SHIELD Agent Scott Adsit and is explaining that the mutant Skrulls just want to live in peace and that he is prepared to vouch for them. Adsit takes off with his team. Cap offers Cyclops the number of a DA to whom he can surrender for the murder of Charles X. Then Tempus arrives to freeze Cap in time—but Cyclops is also frozen, thanks to Doctor Strange, so he can’t escape according to his plan. Cap and Cyke argue over the latter’s fugitive status while K’thron arrives to apologize to Z’Cann and the other mutants. Strange and Tempus have a nice talk while everything settles down.
