Angela: Asgard's Assassin #1 Review by (December 6, 2014)
Review: Okay opening issue but I can’t see where it is going. So far Angela just seems to be a powerful and feared woman warrior like Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Sif, or Valkyrie, or Big Barda, but without the humor or self-awareness of those formidable heroines. Her only unique quality is Heven’s mercenary spirit, which just makes her part-Ferengi. The art is very nice so here’s hoping Kieron Gillen can work the magic he once did for Kid Loki and this becomes a winner.

Comments: Thor has the metal arm and is called only Odinson, demonstrating that this tale takes place post-THOR (2014) #1 and likely pre-AXIS.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Angela: Asgard's Assassin #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Angela, outcast from the Angels of Heven, walks across the desert of Limbo carrying a bundle. She reaches the enclosed city and enters ready to kill anyone who has harmed her friend Sera. Not to worry, Sera is fine, beating all the locals at cards and winning a horse she names Maximus Clop. A half-dozen armored warriors have followed Angela to the city, which she calls failure on her part. She rectifies her mistake by taking out the enemy in seconds, in a choreographed ballet of violence….

Sera fills the locals (and the reader) in on a bit of background: Out in space, Angela discovered a baby, the only survivor of a shipcrash. She left the child with guardians, admonishing them to raise the child with the knowledge that his life is a debt he must repay. Many years later, the child was now a king and he had Sera a prisoner for wanton murder. Angela arrived and asked for Sera’s life as a repayment of his debt; when the king refused a third time, Angela slew him and took her friend, later paying a ransom to the city for the loss if its ruler….

Angela and Sera are aware that someone else is trailing them. They prepare to leave but they are too late: their enemies have arrived. It is Thor Odinson, accompanied by Sif and the Warriors Three. They are demanding the return of the new heir of Asgard, the baby stolen by Angela. She does not want to give him back….
