Avengers: Operation Hydra #1 Review by (July 1, 2019)

Review: Pretty basic and unremarkable story serves no purpose but to convince Hawkeye (and maybe the reader) that he actually makes a contribution to the team. The lesson learned is apparently that being part of of a super-team makes up for individual shortcomings. Maybe next time.

Comments: Based on the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (the tip-off: Jane Foster is an astrophysicist). Jane, Maria Hill, and Pepper Potts have brief cameos.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers: Operation Hydra #1 Synopsis by Julio Molina-Muscara

Hydra scientist Dr Jensen has made a breakthrough in exploiting Chitauri tech; a pair of Hydra big shots take a private plane to Port Sudan where Jensen's lab is located. But Black Widow boards the plane, takes out the crew and flies them to their destination unseen where she discovers a small army armed with Chitauri weapons and calls the Avengers....

Meanwhile, back at home, Hawkeye is practicing his archery while feeling insecure about his lack of a super-power. The Avengers assemble and fly to Sudan in a Quinjet. On arrival the plane is shot down and the heroes (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, and Hulk) emerge and beat up the Hydra army. Dr Jensen, miffed at her men's cowardice, arms herself with a pair of alien blasters and takes on the Avengers herself, until Hawkeye takes her down with an arrow, feeling pleased to contribute.
