Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes II #1 Review by (March 16, 2020)

Review: Another trip to the well gives us an expanded edition of a quite crowded three issues, AVENGERS #58-60. This initial issue sows the seeds of the series’ themes: SHIELD and government interference with the team, the acceptance of Vision by the public and the government, Black Panther’s troubles at home and in school, and Hank Pym under pressure of leadership.

Comments: Issues #1-4 take place immediately after the events of AVENGERS #58. Appearing in the flashback: Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Hercules, the Collector, Magneto





 

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes II #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

SHIELD is transporting the Super-Adaptoid to more secure quarters when the truck is ambushed by A.I.M. and the android stolen….

Overwhelmed at being inducted as a member of the Avengers, Vision turns back to the other members (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Wasp, Goliath) and they fill him in on some of the details, namely, that they have an understanding with the National Security Council. Vision is also introduced to Jarvis who brings drinks for the celebration….

Afterwards there is a Founders Meeting (Cap, IM, Thor, Jan, Hank) where they address the problem: the NSC representative, Agent Murch, might not like a non-human member of the team, especially one who so recently tried to destroy them. Jan mentions that they have always had trouble trying to hold together as a team and Hank, as Chairman, promises to give it all he’s got….

NSC Agent Murch contacts SHIELD’s Avengers liaison, Jasper Sitwell, to talk about the questions surrounding the Vision. Sitwell is also suspicious that the Super-Adaptoid was stolen the day before Vision was named an Avenger….

T’Challa, King of Wakanda, addresses the United Nations, pledging that his newly joined nation, promising honesty and empathy. Afterwards, NSC Agent Henry Peter Gyrich puts together a secret identity for T’Challa when he is not being Avenger or King and T’Challa has a confrontation with Murch over his distrust of the Avengers….

Hawkeye and Jarvis give Vision a short history of the Avengers starting with Clint’s joining the team through its various changes. Vision responds with a demonstration of his powers. They are interrupted by the arrival of Sitwell and a SHIELD team to take Vision back to SHIELD HQ for interrogation….
