Story continued from AVENGERS #386.
The armored Captain America descends
into the tunnels under New York to locate Zerotown; there he asks his
old pal D-Man to join him in his mission to A.I.M. island. D-Man
declines, citing his commitment to the Night People....
Falcon tracks down Jesse Black Crow,
hoping the shaman can help Cap. Jesse, confined to a wheelchair can't
even help himself....
Free Spirit, Jack Flag, and Fabian
leave Arnie Roth in the hospital and join Cap and company in a
planning session aboard a SHIELD craft. Nick Fury goes over plans to
invade Boca Caliente; seems that energy spikes have been coming from
the island and it resembles the energy similar to that of the Cosmic
Cube. Fury takes off, leaving Cap's team to their task....
In Boca Caliente, A.I.M. is sending
MODAM down into the pit to try to repair a rupture in the containment
vessel....
Near the island, Superia and Snapdragon
(really Diamondback who has replaced her) await the arrival of
Captain America to get him the antidote for his malady....
On the other side of the island, Cap
has Fabian and Zack hold their robot army in reserve as he, Falcon,
Free, and Jack swim underwater to reach the shore under cover. Cap
sends Free and Jack to disable the security center....
At Avengers Mansion, Black Widow
discovers that the latest energy spike comes from the island Cap had
told them about and so they head to his aid....
Free and Jack are about to clobber two
guards when the Red Skull appears, kills the guards and heads inside.
The young heroes discover that the dead guards are some sort of
androids and then two more appear, transforming into the Rhino and
Knockout....
Fabian and Zack send the robot army out
to wreak havoc....
Cap and Falcon come upon a crater where
the energy spikes are coming from. Telling Sam to stay back, Cap
leaps in, narrowly missing a spike but finding his power shutting
down and his armor seizing up. Falcon is attacked by an Adaptoid
guard that transforms into Killer Shrike....
As Cap lies paralyzed, having been
thrown from the crater by the energy spike (I guess, it isn't really
clear), he is approached by Superia, who injects something into his
cheek and departs....
