During the War, Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos infiltrate a Nazi airfield where the Red Skull is awaiting delivery of a new weapon. Soon a plane arrives bearing the captured Amulet of Agamotto and its guardian, the Ancient One. As the Skull seizes the magic item, Captain America and Bucky appear and the Commandos choose that moment to attack. The Red Skull flees in his car with some troops and vanishes into a tunnel of light and Cap and Bucky pursue, making it through just as the tunnel closes. The Ancient One explains that they have gone into the Dark Dimension and uses his magic to send Fury and his team through, to keep the Amulet out of the hands of the dimension’s evil ruler, Dormammu. In the Dark Dimension, Bucky snatches the Amulet from the Red Skull and he and Cap escape; after a fight with a Mindless One, a wounded Bucky hides in a cave while Cap reconnoiters with the magic item. Meanwhile, the Red Skull encounters Dormammu and offers to recover the Amulet for the demon in exchange for his freedom and another powerful weapon. The Howlers also fight monsters and arrive at a village where only one of the inhabitants, a woman called Clea, is not afraid of them and offers to guide them. They soon meet up with Cap and discover that Bucky has been captured by the Red Skull and can be exchanged for the Amulet. The Ancient One appears in his astral form and the group devises a plan…. When the exchange is made the Red Skull orders his men to fire on the heroes but the Howlers are there to fight back; meanwhile the Amulet turns out to be a fake created by the Ancient One. An angry Dormammu arrives and drops the Red Skull though a hole in space (and he ends up in Germany, for some reason). The Mindless Ones (actually an illusion by the Ancient One) attack and Dormammu is distracted so the heroes can escape back to their world. The old mystic takes the Amulet, heals the wounds of the injured, and erases their memories of their visit to the Dark Dimension.
