Defenders, The #5 Review by (December 7, 2020)

Comments: Omegatron was created in MARVEL FEATURE #1, the first appearance of the Defenders. Namor’s friend Betty Dean Prentiss is one of the earliest Marvel supporting characters, introduced in MARVEL MYSTERY COMICS #3 in January 1940, only the third appearance of Namor himself; she had a long run throughout the 1940s and 50s. There’s a joke about letterer Charlotte Jetter on page 12.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Defenders, The #5 Synopsis by Julio Molina-Muscara
While the Valkyrie wonders the streets thinking about herself, the Defenders, and the girl who she used to be (Barbara Denton), she's attacked by green hooded men. Valkyrie handles them well but Doc Strange comes to help her beat them for good. Strange takes her to his mansion, the Sanctum Santorium.

Strange suggests the Valkyrie to speak to the Sub-Mariner and Hulk, and provides her with a couple of ruby crystals that will help her find them.

On top of his flying horse Aragorn, Valkerie finds the Sub-Mariner first. He is with Namorita. But he is rude to the Valkery. Suddenly, he vanishes! Valkyrie and Namorita go in search of the Hulk. But the green giant prefers to be left alone instead of helping them... Hulk attacks the Valkerie but he suddenly vanishes too!

Using the magical crystals, Valkerie and Namorita reach a lighthouse that is protected with a force field. Using her mystical blade, Valkyrie slices a door open and find Omegatron, a machine created by Yandroth, the Defenders' very first enemy.

Note: Omegatron has the potential to destroy the planet if it says the name of Yandroth out loud. Since its mechanism is triggered by a counter, Doctor Strange halted Omegatron using a time-stop spell. Unfortunately, the spell weakened and the countdown resumed. Only a few minutes remain before the deadly machine can accomplish its deadly purpose!

As Valkerie and Namorita dwell the premises, they're attacked by Hulk, Namor and duplicates of them, all acting under Omegatron's control. Aragorn helps the Valkyrie identify the real heroes who become to their senses after a beating by the blond warrior woman.

Suddenly, Omegatron grows taking on a giant human-like form. The Sub-Mariner creates a tidal wave to stop it, Hulk hits the ground but none of these attacks halt it. It is the Valkyrie who cuts Omegatron's head off right before it could finish saying "Yandroth", saving the world.

When Valkerie repeats her intention to join the Defenders, Hulk leaps away but Namor invites Valkyrie to go to the Doctor Strange's mansion.
