Fear Itself: The Fearless #9 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Long ago, Brunnhilde met with the other Valkyries who faced a conundrum. Since they were forbidden by Odin to enter Midgard to gather ths souls of the valorous dead, what was their purpose. Brunnhilde reminded them that the Asgardians, with the warlike ways of the gods like Thor, offer much to keep them busy…..

Having claimed the Hammer of Kuurth, Valkyrie departs from Utopia on her winged steed only to confront Storm, the hammer’s guardian. A lightning strike knocks the weapon from Val’s hand and a sudden typhoon prevents her from using it once she has recovered it. Val, riding Aragorn, draws her foe away over inhabited land and bashes Storm to the ground with a single blow of the hammer, and departs….

At the headquarters of the Department of Occult Armaments, Sin is planning to sue the captured hammers to raise a huge armored monster. Son of Satan discovers something interesting in the society’s occult lore: along with the Hammer of Skadi summoned by the Thule Society during World War II, they also summoned the Valkyries (a big mistake) who have the power of imprisoning the hammers within their very souls, thus banishing them from Earth forever. A panicked Sin demands that Crossbones retrieve the other hammers immediately….

Val returns to her cabin in the woods with the captured Hammer of Kuurth and discovers that the dwarf Tolor has admitted Captain America and Dr. Strange. The mage has discovered that the cabin is part of her soul and asks whether she is ready to die; she responds that she serves Odin, however that may turn out for her. She asks how they found her; Strange replies that it was by using a sliver of her damaged sword to tack her—and she realizes that if the heroes could find her by magical means, so could the villains…. Outside, Crossbones and the DOA seize and bind Aragorn, then the brutal mercenary fires a rocket that blasts the cabin to bits….
