Free Comic Book Day 2010 Iron Man/Nova #1 Review by (August 11, 2020)

Review: All-ages title looks like it would be fun for the kids. I’m too many decades past being able to evaluate something like this so I’ll just say it was amusing and go back to something dark and violent.

Comments: As the book title says, this was one of two FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2010 offerings; oddly, the other one also featured Iron Man, this time teaming with Thor. This one is an all-ages offering.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Free Comic Book Day 2010 Iron Man/Nova #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Learning that the Red Ghost has escaped from prison, Iron Man and Nova head to the zoo, assuming the villain will go there to rescue his three super-apes: Mikhlo the gorilla has super strength, Peotr the orangutan has magnetic powers, and Igor the baboon is a shapeshifter. Iron Man has brought a stasis field generator to trap the Red Ghost when he arrives but instead the baddie sends a drone commanding the apes to escape and meet him elsewhere. Mikhlo and Peotr break out of their cage, defeat the heroes, and fly off, courtesy of the latter’s gravitational abilities but Igor wants to be friends with the two Avengers and sticks close to them as they pursue the others. They catch up to the Red Ghost and two apes on a nearby rooftop where the heroes have a lot of trouble contending with them. Nova drops Mikhlo into a lake, Igor turns into a tuning fork to interfere with Peotr’s signals, and Iron Man reveals he has a second stasis field generator nearby, disguised as a pigeon to trap Red Ghost.
