Free Comic Book Day 2010 Iron Man/Thor #1 Review by (March 10, 2020)

Review: Promising tale, featuring some nice, solid JRJR art, goes off the rails after the action scenes, when the heroes give a canned lecture on environment to a bunch of caricatures of rich people. Expected a little better from Matt Fraction. Still, it’s worth more than I paid for it. [Winky emoji]

Comments: As the book title says, this was one of two FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2010 offerings; oddly, the other one also featured Iron Man, this time teaming with Nova.

Free Comic Book Day 2010 Iron Man/Thor #1 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Thor is in Thailand trying to stop a tsunami—and he fails. In fact, he can’t do anything to control weather events around the world….

Tony Stark gets a visit from the heads of a company terraforming the moon to create luxury residences for the wealthy. But they aren’t there to ask for money, only to know if Stark had ever tried to turn weather into a weapon. Tony says no so they leave. Tony confides in Pepper Potts that he had created a device to weaponize weather and these guys must have found it and were shaking him down. As Iron Man, he heads into space and encounters Thor on the same mission. They stop by Tony’s space station where he explains to Thor how he created a weather weapon as a step toward creating the reverse, a device to easily terraform a planet. The two Avengers go to the moon where the executives order the construction robots to attack the heroes. While Iron Man faces them, Thor battles the weather machine head on. They are victorious and address the people of the Luna base on the terrible effects on Earth’s environment but the executives don’t care: they are rich and powerful and are creating a better home for themselves, abandoning the Earth to the poor. Tony transfers the residents to Stark’s space station where they will subsist on artificial food until they grow tired of it. Meanwhile, Thor and Iron Man try to clean up the damage caused to the Earth and the Moon….
