Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind #1 Review by (November 4, 2022)
This issue is probably to remind people who the Guardians Of The Galaxy are. They haven't had a comic of their own for a year since the end of 2021. Hopefully it is also the herald of a new series continuing the threat of the Celestial here.

On that basis presumably the Nova Corps are calling because the Celestial is attacking Xandar (but strangely the Xandarian Worldmind doesn't seem aware of it).

The Nova Corps was historically based on Xandar but both have been destroyed several time and I'm not sure how connected they are now.

But this issue has reduced the Guardians to its 5 core members (hence the titular Rewind?) losing Hercules, Mantis, Marvel Boy, Moondragon, Nova, Phyla-Vell, Quasar (Avril Kincaid) and Quasar (Wendell Vaughn). So maybe Xandar and the Nova Corps are being returned to basics too?

I await a new series to find out.

Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind #1 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
The Xandarian Worldmind AI wants to find out more about Earth. As such she wants to interview 1 of its most Galactically-known sons Peter Quill/Star-Lord. Unfortunately when she contacts him the Guardians Of The Galaxy are in the middle of a fight against tiny alien creatures with big teeth who want to stop them 'borrowing' a gem as a power source to jump-start their ship. Not wishing to harm the aliens the team have their weapons set to stun.

Suddenly they are confronted by a giant blue hand on tentacles. It has a single eye in the middle of the palm with a large gem embedded above it. Rocket detects that of course that is the gem they need. Groot says "I am Groot" as usual, to which Rocket replies that he disagrees - the hand probably won't just give it to them if they ask nicely. Drax dives on the hand with his 2 big knives, but the hand just grips him in its fist. He escapes but reports that there's no way of removing the gem without killing the hand.

Worldmind contacts Peter again as Gamora is trapped in an electro-net but breaks free. The AI says she's provided the comfy chair with cupholder that he requested. Quill says it's still not a good time and suggests she try someone else. The AI responds that she already did but Drax wasn't able to answer her questions satisfactorily. We flashback to Drax in the comfy chair. As well as continuing to demonstrate his inability to grasp Terran idioms he did tell her that Star-Lord has shown his ability to rally the troops.

Back at the battle with the hand and the little aliens the hand starts emitting blast rays from its jewel. And it turns out that Groot and Rocket too have been interviewed together. Rocket wore Star-Lord's helmet and pretended to be him. When asked to name the best team-members he responded "Rocket and Groot". But Groot gave the game away by saying "I am Groot" and the Worldmind claimed not to have been fooled anyway - Rocket doesn't look anything like a Terran. Rocket countered that Quill himself is only *half* Terran. But he admitted that Peter is quite smart so if he's only half-Terran then that must mean that Terrans are very intelligent.

Back at the battle again the gang try to hide from the hand but the little aliens keep telling it where they are. And Gamora admits that she also had an interview. She attempted to describe the typical Terran but kept giving away that she was actually describing Peter. She at 1st thought he was despicable, dishonourable and faithless. But later she realised this was a front hiding bravery and compassion.

Back in the present Peter and Gamora come to the conclusion that the hand is the small aliens' god. They ask Rocket if he can devise a way to siphon off some power from the gem. The master engineer claims that it will be difficult of course but he sets about doing it.

Meanwhile we see a Celestial who has decided that the stubbornly defiant human race needs wiping out, and that the Xandarian cosmic generator will enable it to go back in time and snuff the Terrans out at birth.

Back at the battle Rocket has built a device to absorb the gem's blasts and convert them to energy to power their ship. So he carries it into battle shooting at the hand to get its attention. But Groot has found a better way. He snaps off an arm and presses the wood against a fingertip of the hand. In this way he attains mental communication with the hand and explains the situation. The hand compliantly fires a large blast at Rocket's absorber. But Rocket hadn't reckoned with a side-effect striking him like lightning.

The Guardians' ship now has power so Quill is ready to give the Worldmind the interview. Except he finds that the chair and cupholder have been messed up. He tells the AI that she can find all the answers about humans in the movie Footloose. She asks if that includes why they call the Galaxy the Milky Way. He opines that it's just because they like milk so much. Fortunately the interview is cut short by Gamora saying that the Nova Corps have asked for help.
