Doc Samson and General Thunderbolt Ross visit the Abomination
in his cell. Samson informs him that he is being considered for military
operative for the Army. Abomination laughs his head off. Samson says he is
there to give Abom a psychiatric evaluation so Abom gloats over having killed
Ross’ daughter Betty. Ross draws a handgun and threatens to shoot the monster
through the eye…but he thinks better of it. Abom blames all that’s he’s done on
Bruce Banner, suggesting Banner could kill himself to atone for his sins. But
instead, Banner keeps trying to cure himself…and that’s what led to the
creation of the Abomination….
Years ago, the Army Division he commanded tried to capture
Banner at a secret lab; Hulk came out and wrecked the tanks. Ross and Ivan
Blonsky surveyed the field after the battle and Blonsky spotted a container
glowing green. Against Ross’ warning he picked it up and was exposed to gamma
radiation and eventually he mutated into the Abomination. This story was later
covered up by the military. Ross accuses Abom of being obsessed with destroying
the Hulk; Abom turns it right back, accusing Ross of doing the same and being
jealous that only the Abom could go toe-to-toe with Hulk. While the art shows
the first battle between Hulk and Abomination, Abom argues that his purpose in
life was to destroy the Hulk as a benefit to mankind. Ross scoffs so Abom
insults his dead daughter again. Abom says that the Army wants to believe
itself the strongest on Earth but it will always be second to the Hulk. In that
first battle, the Army beat the Abomination but Hulk destroyed the tanks. Abom
claims superior intelligence so Ross asks why, if Abom is superior, Hulk always
wins. Abom attributes it to luck…and now it’s Ross’ turn to laugh….
