Hulk is mad now and ready to attack Chrissie whom he no longer
trusts. Mrs. Gray, who has a mental rapport with vehicles, is able to draw the
RV with Deadbird and Stu to them. Stu and Deadbird try to calm Hulk down but he
hates freaks and threatens them too; Mrs. Gray tries too. Chrissie finally
manages to talk him down and he falls asleep….
Bruce Banner wakes up to find from the others that he has
been asleep for thirty hours. Deadbird explains that he has contacted Eduardo
(Intergalactic) and he thinks Bruce’s cure is feasible. Eduardo has also found
them a sanctuary, their old base, Nightmerica. But Deadbird is beginning to
fall apart, having gone too long without a recharge….
They drive to St. Petersburg, Maryland, the RV breaking down
for good. They walk the rest of the way (only a mile) until they reach a barbed
wire fence. Stu walks right through, snapping the wires while Bruce aids
Deadbird who is sinking fast, a wing falling off. They reach the darkened
building and enter, calling out for Eduardo. Eduardo appears, a young man with
a mask wired to his face and his head hooked up to auxiliary brains. He has
prepared Deadbird’s morphogenic field generator. Deadbird is placed inside and
the machine switched on; moments later, he is the healthiest he has been in
years. Stu shows Bruce his room which is a shrine to Captain America, filled
with posters, comics, toys, and other goodies. Chrissie talks to Bruce and he
announces his intention to leave as soon as possible as he would only be
putting them in danger. Eduardo and Deadbird show Bruce to the morphogenic
field generator and with a casual “What’ve I got to lose?” he enters the
machine and the switch is thrown. At that moment, Mohamed Simensky and his
troops, along with Stealth, burst in….
