Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Incredible Hulk #136 Synopsis by Jeff Grubs
Bruce Banner is in the custody of General Thunderbolt Ross. While flying over NYC, the transport helicopter passes by the Empire State building causing Banner to experience dizzy spells which triggers his transformation into the Hulk. Breaking out of the helicopter, he feels a strange voice in his head calling him towards the Empire State Building just as the NYC power company reports a strange power drain coming from Mid-Manhattan.

Out in space, cosmonauts detect an incoming vessel which stops in orbit and launches a smaller ship with what looks like oars emanating from the sides. Atop the front of that smaller ship and like a harpooner stands Xeron, who orders his oarsmen to row as they approach the Empire State Building.

Hulk sees them but not before a skyscraper-sized behemoth, called Klaatu materializes around the Empire State Building, and drains the city power, sending it into a blackout.

Hulk launches himself at the behemoth striking it, causing Xeron's harpoon line to miss. The Hulk, standing upon the Klaatu's shoulder, assaults the monster with his mightiest blows but they prove useless against so large a beast! Klaatu flicks the Hulk away as if he were an insect, sending him hurtling across the city into an abandoned building.

Xeron resumes his attempts at harpooning Klaatu but the behemoth begins to dematerialize again canceling the hunt. Having lost his prey after being so close, Xeron decides to capture the Hulk in hopes of utilizing him after their loss.

The Hulk fights back and almost destroys the ship but Xeron launches his energy harpoon line into the Hulk's back. The Hulk drags the vessel by the energy line like a whale. Marveling at his strength, Xeron fires a second energy line into the Hulk, draining him of his strength and rendering him unconscious.

When the Hulk awakens, he is aboard the vessel and in orbit, a group of strange alien oarsmen stands around him, and the Abomination is with them!
