Invaders, The #37 Review by (February 26, 2019)

Review: Mostly action-packed issue is a bit of an improvement over the first two parts but the Iron Cross still seems way too much of a challenge for Subby, much less the assembled heroes, to be credible. Eventually, Torch remembers that fire works against mechanical devices and knocks the baddie out of the sky. Plus his demise could have been more dramatic. Meanwhile, it didn't occur to Thin Man to patch the hole in the sub with his head on the inside? And for those of us who are interested in the romantic antics of C-list superheroes, Miss America and Whizzer plan to go out on a date. Be still, my beating heart!

Comments: Part three of three parts. First (brief) appearance of Lady Lotus. Rick Hoberg assisted with the pencils.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invaders, The #37 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The villain Iron Cross has taken off with his prisoner Professor Schneider leaving Namor the Sub-Mariner torn between pursuing him and rescuing the Nazi submarine where the lives of the Liberty Legion are in danger. Inside, the Legion (Patriot, Thin Man, Jack Frost, Miss America, Red Raven, Blue Diamond) mops up the bad guys as the craft is quickly filling with water. Iron Cross hits Namor's flagship with the other Invaders (Captain America and Human Torch) aboard with Whizzer, knocking it out of the sky. Aboard the sub, Thin Man stretches his body to cover the hole in the bulkhead as Namor guides it to the surface. With all the heroes safe and reunited but the ship damaged, Namor heads out after the villain, joined by Miss America, Red Raven, and Human Torch. On confronting him in midair, Red Raven and Miss America are quickly knocked out of the sky, with Whizzer, racing along an ice bridge made by Jack Frost, catching the heroine. Namor and Torch take turns fighting the villain until Iron Cross drops the Professor; Namor rescues the hapless scientist and Torch heats up the enemy's armor melting the internal mechanisms and causing Iron Cross to fall into the sea and sink. Namor concludes that the villain is dead. Professor Schneider reveals that Helmut Gruler destroyed the blueprints for the armor so there can never be another Iron Cross. Whizzer asks Miss America for a date. They call the authorities to pick up the sub full of baddies. All the heroes crowd into the flagship and head for home....

Epilogue: All of this was witnessed by Meranno the U-Man who cannot fight off the hypnotic summons of Lady Lotus....
