Iron Man: Fatal Frontier #8 Review by (August 24, 2015)
This is the start of another 3-issue arc, against Dr Doom. Lan Medina takes back the pencilling from Neil Edwards, and from now on they will strictly alternate issues. Tony Stark's unwise actions and his variable confidence are signs that phlogistone is getting to him, as predicted in #4.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man: Fatal Frontier #8 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
2 days ago Tony Stark is with Arthur of the Circle, dressed like King Arthur, in an appropriate holographic setting watching 2 'knights' sword fighting. They agree an aim to destroy all phlogistone before any of it gets to Earth. The Circle agree because they don't want Dr Doom getting his hands on the super-powerful metal. But Arthur will only help if Stark, as Sheriff of Tranquility Gulch, throws Doom's Doombots off the Moon.

1 day ago deputy robot Udarnik questions Tony's plan to order Doom's Embassy off the Moon. Udarnik's whole motivation is to get people on the Moon (to assuage his loneliness). He wasn't happy last issue when Stark forced Eli Warren and his New Modernist Army to leave. Tony mollifies him by claiming that lots of people are being kept away for fear of Dr Doom.

Now Tony sends simple armoured drones to the Latverian Lunar Embassy to order them to leave the Moon and to confiscate all phlogistone and research data. Meanwhile he has a remote-contolled Iron Man suit, Udarnik and the Circle Knights on site. Cora Birch, his biographer on video-link, thinks this is way out-of-line. And Tony himself seems hesitant.

The Doombots shoot down the drones and come out to face the others. Udarnik shifts into Shockworker mode - he gets his spider-machines to coalesce into a giant body for him. The remote Iron Man guides civilains to safety as Shockworker breaks Doom Tower and frazzles the Doombots. Cora notes that Tony uses a catch-phrase from last issue "Tony knows best".

Everything is going to plan when Stark suddenly loses contact with Cora and his troops. The real Dr Doom appears behind him and strips him of his armour. As Tony tries to work out how Doom got past his security and can defeat his tech, Doom says that he's using the 1 thing Stark can't factor into his equations - magic. And he throws Tony into a pit.
