Major Tom Aramaki of the SHIELD Special Response Team Alpha, informally known as the Capekillers, reports to Nick Fury that they have received a warning message from Tony Stark that his latest armor has gone rogue. The message included a lot of detail on the new armor’s capabilities, including “combat autopilot,” enabling it to mimic Stark’s fighting skills and reactions at an inhuman speed if needed. A seriously injured Stark was found near his lab and rushed to the surgical theater. Aramaki reports that they have so far used only conventional weapons against the rogue armor but now they are unleashing the Stark-designed Gungnir missiles….
And then we learn what really happened: Tony’s actual warning message was that in an emergency the new armor is programmed to attempt an upload of Tony’s consciousness. And then the lights went out, Tony was attacked while wearing the armor by enemy mecha, which told SHIELD that the armor had gone rogue. And then he was shot by a rail gun that pierced the armor and wounded Tony. The armor fought off its foes and deposited Tony on the ground near the lab and proceeded to upload Tony’s mind to create Tony Stark 2.0 who we’ve been following since issue #1. The Gungnir missile arrives so the armor grabs hold of it and rides it toward the ocean. The green goth girl (Absynthe) reappears and, since they are moving beyond the speed of sound, cuts into her flesh with a X-Acto knife, “We need to talk. I’m going to delete you from this armor, TonyGhost” and then vanishes. As the missile crashes into the sea, Tony 2.0 sizes up the various threats from SHIELD and hackers and notes that Tony’s cognitive integrity is running at only 79%....
