Iron Man: Hypervelocity #6 Review by (July 22, 2022)
Comments: Final appearance of Tony Stark 2.0, Major Tom Araki, and Absynthe; none are ever seen again, as of 2022. The Tony Stark 2.0 that returns in IRON MAN: RAPTURE is said to be a variant and the story is set in Earth-11011. Iron Man Armor Model 28 can be spotted in the Hall of Armors in IRON MAN (2017) #6 and IRON MAN #600.

Review: The entire issue reaches its climax in seconds as things happen at a rate too swift for the human eye to follow. Fortunately we have been accelerated along with the Iron Man armor so we can follow matters every fraction of a second along with the hero as everything counts down to a (possibly) explosive climax. The whole issue is an adrenaline rush which is not always easy to follow (multiple readings help). And the Beautiful Garbage is an interesting foe as we learn what they really are in this concluding issue but no real time to digest it. The cliffhanger is completely appropriate to this very unusual cyberpunk Iron Man story.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man: Hypervelocity #6 Synopsis by T Vernon
The empty Iron Man armor occupied by Tony Stark 2.0 is aboard the SHIELD Assault Carrier Samuel Sawyer as the mecha of the tribe called Beautiful Garbage invade, hacking into the ship’s systems in order to absorb SHIELD high tech. Major Tom Aramaki watches as the ship’s array of built-in defenses (proposed by Tony Stark) fight back to repel the invaders. Tony 2.0 searches Absynthe’s memory for anything he can use against the mecha; this is done under the symbol of a kiss. The armor then faces the Beautiful Garbage while a splinter personality goes to work creating some accelerationware. The mecha fire their railgun through the ship, seriously injuring Aramaki but he doesn’t feel it because of the cocktail of drugs he is on. Tony 2.0 has learned that his enemies are the waste products of various black-program attempts to upload human consciousness into digitized form. Iron Man detonates explosives which he can withstand but his foes cannot. Aramaki orders the ship to detonate its nuclear warhead in sixty seconds. Tony installs the accelerationware and acquires the speed to overcome the mecha which works but only for a short time as Absynthe points out that the mecha have also downloaded his accessionware and it works much better on their processors, giving them the new advantage. The two surviving mechas aim the rail gun at the damaged armor but Tony springs his surprise: when the mecha downloaded his program it included software that turned the mecha into Tony’s puppets so he has them destroy each other. There are only 7 seconds until detonation so Iron Man really races the clock searching for a way to stop it happening. He goes over a multitude of options as he speeds toward his target and reaches it with 0.009 seconds…and there the story ends.
