Iron Man 2: Public Identity #3 Review by (April 8, 2022)
Comments: Tie-in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as a prologue to the movie IRON MAN 2. Plot by Joe Casey and Justin Theroux. Finishes credited to Barry Kitson and Stefan Gaudiano.

Review: Decent but unnecessary lead in to the second MCU Iron Man movie introduces various themes that are part of the movie which are pretty well covered in the film itself. These include Tony’s reckless early days as a celebrity superhero, the Military’s growing disappointment with him, Tony’s mean father shaping his life, the betrayal of Anton Vanko, General Ross’ hostility toward Tony, Justin Hammer’s jealousy, and Nick Fury’s concern. The writing and art are okay, nothing more and even Adi Granov’s realistic covers are seriously generic. The best I can say is “decent.”

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man 2: Public Identity #3 Synopsis by T Vernon
Justin Hammer’s single-pilot attack vehicle has been shot down in the Congo….

Years ago, Tony Stark had returned from college and his father Howard Stark wanted to lecture him on responsibilities but had to go out with his wife. They never returned from that trip, leaving Tony in charge of the family business….

Lt. Col. James Rhodes tells Tony about this mission, put together because the military considered Stark too unreliable. A general calls to ask Tony to rescue the pilot….

Iron Man jets in, to the consternation of General Thunderbolt Ross who nevertheless wants to see what Stark can do in an actual combat situation. Iron Man swoops in, scatters the enemy soldiers without killing any, and rescues the pilot who had been tortured. Dropping him off at a friendly base in Egypt, Tony has to deal with Ross who demands to know why he didn’t kill any of the enemy troops. Tony responds by reciting the General’s questionable record and warns him that if another innocent is put into danger to advance a pointless military agenda, there will be consequences….

Back home at a party, Tony tells Pepper Potts that he will be doing a lot more of that sort of thing in the future….

Meanwhile, Nick Fury tells Agent Phil Coulson that they will be keeping an eye on him for some time to come….
