Loki: Agent of Asgard #9 Review by (January 19, 2015)
Comments: AXIS tie-in; the title is LOKI: AGENT OF AXIS. Issue continues directly from AXIS #8 and parallels issue #9. Special note says that it takes place before THOR (2014) #1 (Mjolnir is still on the Moon). The cover is a homage to JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #85 (first appearance of Loki). Cameos by Spider-Man, Absorbing Man, Mystique, Carnage, Jack o’ Lantern, Colossus, Rogue, Medusa, Nightcrawler, Hobgoblin, Sunfire, Kluh, Storm.

Review: Expanded version of the climactic events of AXIS #9 adds some interesting character insights with Loki holding the moral high ground for once. And there is a full-page reminder of the Crime That Will Not Be Forgiven, leaving us to hope that this plot thread will soon be resolved.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Loki: Agent of Asgard #9 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

As Loki runs across the surface of the moon to escape a murderous Thor, his mind races back to how he got into this predicament….

He had joined the squad of inverted villains on a summons from Steve Rogers to fight the heroes gone bad in the AXIS event. They had some time to kill so the Enchantress persuaded him to help her sister Lorelei repent of her evil life. The two Asgardians appeared in the bank which was being robbed by Lorelei and Sigurd; the outlaws were soon wrapped up in Amora’s magic and delivered to Odin for judgment. Loki begins to wonder if their good qualities were also reversed, justice becoming self-righteousness. As for Lorelei and Sigurd, Odin had their hearts removed and buried on the Isle of Silence. The All-Father also had a word for Loki: Loki is in dire need of humility, without which he may change but never grow…

Loki and the Enchantress return to the ex-villains meeting and head with the others to the battle site where The bad Avengers are fighting the bad X-Men. Amora opens a portal to the moon and Loki lures Thor into it. The ex-Trickster plays a desperate gamble but it pays off—Loki is now worthy to lift Thor’s hammer and to use it against its former owner. Thor calls down lightning—and it is absorbed by Loki, strengthening him. As the newfound hero demands that Thor acknowledge that he is now the worthier brother, the inversion spell is lifted back on Earth by the Red Skull, Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom, changing everything back to normal. Loki is now reminded of the “crime that will not be forgiven” and Thor refuses to believe anything the Prince of Lies is telling him about the inversion caused by Axis.
