Synopsis
At the base of the Statue of Liberty the Hulk stands with several other heroes, and feels fear. The Void is coming and the Hulk is the one he hates the most. Hulk sees the Sentry overhead and in the dim recesses of his brain recalls the way things were supposed to be… He remembers how Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation and transformed into the violent angry Hulk; how the Sentry—whom Hulk calls Golden Man—arrived to save the day; how they discovered that Sentry’s golden aura calmed the Hulk… so Sentry made Hulk his partner, promised to find a cure, said, “As long as you stay close to me you’ll have nothing to fear.” Bruce learned to control his transformations and he became a hero with his partner the Sentry. Then they encountered the mutant misfits known as the Lobster Men, and for the first time, Hulk was accepted for the person he was. Then it all went wrong: the Void attacked and when Hulk touched him, his life changed; he was no longer a hero, but struck by a series of bitter moments: abused by his father, hunted by General Ross, watching Betty die, afraid to kill himself to end his misery, coming to a solitary end in the distant future. The Sentry vanished that day as the Void swore his eternal hatred for the one Sentry loves. Thus the Hulk became the hated, feared, rampaging monster he is today, as he waits for the Void to destroy the last remnants of his soul.
