Thanos: A God Up There Listening #3 Review by (July 2, 2022)
Layouts for this issue by Daniel Govar, Geoffo and Mast (the last 2 did the layouts for the online version?). Neil Edwards helps Iban Coello with the pencilling and inking.

The Black Order, Thanos' elite troop, were 1st seen in various issues in the Infinity event. However this is a preceding flashback, and this is the 1st chronological app for Black Dwarf, Corvus Glaive and Supergiant. Ebony Maw and Proxima Midnight were in previous issues of this series, and also both in the earlier flashback bulk of the 2019 Thanos series.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Thanos: A God Up There Listening #3 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Thane son of Thanos has frozen his father in amber (at the end of the Infinity event). Ebony Maw of Thanos' Black Order has taken the young Inhuman under his wing (for his own ends) and has brought him to meet Trynka, an alien ex-member of Thanos' army who has (some of?) Thanos' history recorded in his DNA. They began telepathically viewing an event where Thanos led his Black Fleet to attack Ego The Living Planet. Ego laid waste to the fleet and his pseudopods dragged Thanos into his 'mouth'. And Thane woke screaming in a backroom in Sclerosis Syd's bar. Meanwhile the other aliens in the bar have decided that if Thane really is the son of Thanos then they'd better kill him before he grows into his power.

Trynka tells Thane that he needs to suffer more of Thanos' evil if he's to continue his legacy, but Thane says he's *not* going to become Thanos. He calls for Ebony Maw who's been invisible most of the time but now seems to have actually gone. Exiting the room he finds the stairs outside littered with dead aliens. He fears that somehow the deadly power of his left hand had reached out to kill them (but I suspect Maw). Trynka says they need to flee the planet Malady now before the authorities come after them. But Thane asks the living book to show him more.

He sees Thanos falling through the Planet's innards and winding up in maybe it's stomach acid. Which rises up (in the shape of 2 giant hands) to engulf him, but then it spews him out into another part of its body where he is reunited by some of his crew including the 5 members of the elite Black Order (Black Dwarf, Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight and Supergiant). Ego's continuing attacks kill some of the expendables while a giant stone Thanos strikes at Thanos and the BO.

Thane wakes up again remembering how he used to be a healer in the Inhuman city Orollan (before the Terrigen Bomb unleashed his Inhuman state which killed everyone in the place). Now he tries to heal 1 of the dead aliens in the bar. But Trynka warns him that touching the dead with his deadly hand might result in something *worse* than death. Trynka hurries Thane away as armoured cops arrive. Thane still wonders where Ebony is, and we see him invisibly gloating.

Then we're back in the flashback visions. Ego as giant stone Thanos scatters the Order and then turns to their boss. But Thanos holds back a giant fist and then blasts its arm to pieces. The recovered Black Order start to tear the rest of the stone giant apart. Observing Thane thinks Ego is dead but Trynka says not. Ex-crewman Trynka leads him to where his own dead body lies. Thane can't understand how the alien can still be alive in the future. They aren't supposed to be detectable by the people in the vision/memory. But Thanos speaks to Thane and suggests that he is insane and so anything is possible.

Then Ego attacks a different way, as rising out of his 'flesh' are copies of everyone Thanos has ever killed.
