Thor: God of Thunder #16 Review by (December 21, 2013)
Review: It’s starting to come together (better late than never) though Aaron is still having trouble blending comedy and drama smoothly: the Dark Elf squabbling doesn’t really mesh with the danger they are all in as evinced by the climax. But it’s moving in the right direction i.e. away from the grim and nasty God Butcher saga this title started with. Eventually I hope he gets it right.

Thor: God of Thunder #16 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Thor is raging to attack the Dark Elf conqueror Malekith but the villain is standing just on the other side of the Frost Giants’ border, accompanied by his new allies. The other members of the League of Realms restrain the Thunder God from attacking as it would lead to war with the Frost Giants. A bitter Thor calls down lighting to dig the grave of their fallen comrade Oggy….

Next the League goes to Vanaheim where they find the Dark Elf refugees dead, killed by tribal infighting. Thor reveals that there must be a traitor in their midst to explain how the enemy always seems to be one step ahead of them. Most of the league members suspect Wazira the Dark Elf witch but Thor accuses Ud the Troll. By his own authority he judges Ud guilty and executes him with a blow of his hammer (while Malekith watches unseen). He then dissolves the League and the men go home. Thor enlists Wazira in his plan so they head to Midgard, a butcher shop in New York to be precise. The place is secretly a guard station for the Dark Elf tribal council. Thor addresses the tribal leaders to try to persuade them to work together against the common enemy but they reject his proposal. Thor then accuses Wazira of being the traitor but she responds with a spell that forces a grisly parasite out of his mouth, revealing that the Thunder God was the unwitting villain all along. Then Malekith walks in….
