Synopsis / Summary / Plot
Young Phobos (Alexander Aaron) is in Nick Fury's secret base #21, Providence, watching news reports of the invasion of Asgard (in the Siege limited series). (Fury took the rest of the active Secret Warriors with Captain America's forces to oppose the invasion in Siege #2, but he wouldn't let Alex go along.) Now he sees his father Ares, Olympian God Of War, being torn apart by Sentry (later in Siege #2). Those 2 warriors were supposed to be on the same side, as part of the US Government forces led by Norman Osborn.
He remembers a conversation with his dad (probably from the same period as the flashback in SW#10 and the end of Ares (2006) #5 where the pair are bonding while recovering from the events of that series). Ares says he will die in battle eventually, and it will be up to Alex to ensure that death was honourable and seek any necessary revenge.
So Alexander hacks into Nick Fury's database and looks up details of secret base #23, Memorial, which has access to the White House.
Now we flashback 4 hours to Cap's team preparing for the assault. We see Hellfire, Quake and Stonewall of the SW team, alongside Captain America, New Avengers Luke Cage and Spider-Man, and Young Avengers Stature, Vision and Wiccan. Daisy Johnson (no relation) sets it up so Nick Fury can communicate with Iron Patriot (Norman Osborn) in the thick of the conflict in Asgard. Nick's image will be transmitted to Osborn, but with no background to hide the rest of the forces from the foe. Steve Rogers will use a 2nd headset to see what Fury sees, but his presence won't be made known.
They see Iron Patriot leading his troops, in particular the Dark Avengers Ares and Venom (Mac Gargan) and the U-Foes Vapor and X-Ray. Fury says he's coming to get Osborn, and Norman assumes it's just him (and maybe the Secret Warriors). He's going to get a bit of a surprise.
Back in the present Phobos has sneaked into the White House via a secret passage. He's soon found by Secret Service Agents who are lulled by his age (10-12 years) into ignoring the samurai sword at his back. Until he uses it on them.
In Asgard now Cap and Fury are fighting the full set of U-Foes (including Ironclad and Vector). Vapor possibly flies off elsewhere, and Nick puts Vector down. He then takes time out for a swig from a hip flask. Cap turns the offer down and continues battling Ironclad and X-Ray. Nick invites Steve Rogers to the next get-together of surviving Howling Commandos. Vector revives as Fury puts his flask away so Nick hits him again as Cap finally bests the other 2.
Back at the White House Alex is up to his neck in Agents. Loads more are evacuating the President to the Marine One helicopter. More Agents arrive at the fight with big guns. So Phobos grabs some guns off fallen Agents and returns fire while diving backwards out of a window. He lands on a lawn just as the chopper takes off. He aims at the copter ... and says "Bang". Then he's mobbed by more Agents and the fight resumes.
Later Alex is in the Oval Office surrounded by fallen Agents, writing a letter to the President. He blames the Pres for Ares' death, and the general foolishness of giving power to Norman Osborn. He signs himself God Of Fear, Son Of War.
