Thor
and Balder have joined the Warriors Three on a Manhattan street in Midgard when
Sif, Tana Nile, Hildegarde, and Silas Grant appear from Blackworld, pursued by
the crystalline form of Ego-Prime. Thor hurls Mjolnir at the monster but it is
repelled, resulting in a storm and then Ego-Prime evolves into the form of a
pink-skinned, gray-haired human with godlike powers. The giant explains his
plans to Thor: he intends to conquer Earth and cause the human population to
destroy itself, thus “saving” the Earth and purifying creation. Hogun climbs a
building and jumps on Ego-Prime’s head, only to discover his hair is alive,
entangling him. Thor blinds the giant with a lightning blast and rescues his
friend. Ego-Prime attacks by mutating the crowd of bystanders into monsters and
having them assault the heroes. Cowering in an alley, Volstagg sees a little
girl being attacked by monsters, dashes in and carries her to safety. Tana Nile
is captured by a monster and, against his instincts, Silas Grant goes to her
rescue. Thor continues to battle Ego-Prime, aware that his attacks only
strengthen the monster but at a loss for an alternative….
In
Asgard, the Grand Vizier watches and despairs for the heroes; he rushes to find
Odin to beg for help but he is turned away by the guards. The Vizier encounters
Karnilla the Norn Queen and explains the situation that the heroes, including
her beloved Balder, are doomed and such seems to be their fate as decreed by
Odin. A brief cutaway to Odin confirms this, that they are being manipulated to
fulfill his secret purposes….
In
Brooklyn, the disguised Heimdall and his sidekick Kamorr arrive at an apartment
building, seeking one Jackson Kimball. They knock on his door only to be
greeted with gunfire. Heimdall breaks down the door to find that Jackson
Kimball was afraid of a visit from a gangster named Baker to whom he owes
money. Sure enough, Baker and his goons arrive prepared to murder Jackson.
Heimdall disarms Baker with a blast from his rod while Kamorr easily clobbers
the trio of thugs. The Asgardians then depart with their new companion….
In
Manhattan, while his companions battle the citizens-turned-monsters, Thor
fights a hopeless battle against Ego-Prime. The giant then emits a blast from
his eyes to enlarge ants to human size
and attack the heroes. Ego-Prime then animates the stone of the streets
and it breaks up and moves together, burying Thor, until the God of Thunder is
gone….
