A huge lady villain, Unum, invades the planet Yor, kills its
heroines, and moves on….
Valkyrie appears to a female soldier in an Asian war zone to
tell her she will not survive the battle but she is destined for a place in
Valhalla. Val fades away….
She-Hulk and her Skrull partner Jazinda, working for Freeman
Bonding, Inc., are pursuing a merc called Max Farrell. They corner him at a
construction site; he asks for three days to see his daughter be married. Jen
refuses but Unum suddenly appears, intending to kill Shulkie and Jazinda. A
punch nearly kills Jen; Jazinda tries to protect Jen from their enemy’s deadly energy
beams but they are suddenly beamed away. Unum knows the Elder behind this and
vows to catch up with him. Farrell, left alone, skulks away….
Jen and Jazinda find themselves in a modest-looking house. Valkyrie,
Thundra, Invisible Woman, and Storm appear and greet Jen but Jazinda is gone//having
been teleported away to another location where she meets Lyja, Gamora, Quasar (Phyla-Vell),
and Mantis//and a disembodied male voice informs the Earth women that she has
been transferred to be with her own kind. They demand to know what’s going on
and the voice tells then he has saved their lives from Unum. The women leave
the house for the nice green yard but walk into a force field. The two heaviest
hitters, Shulkie and Thundra, try smashing through but it doesn’t yield….
Their protector, revealed to be the Collector, monitors
their doings but Unum bursts into his control room and accuses him of coming
between her and her prey….
Mantis advises Quarar to insert her Quantum Sword into their
force field//Shulkie suggests that Valkyrie try to pierce the field with her
sword Dragonfang. Sue uses one of her own force fields to enlarge the hole
slightly and Storm fires lightning through the hole and the barrier is broken,
the two parties of women find themselves in the same place. Then the Collector
drops into their midst and Unum follows, ready to kill all her prey at one time.
The massed heroines fight their common foe and do poorly. Shulkie learns from
the Collector that Unum is powered by Enmity which Phyla-Vells explains is a
member of a family of seven cosmic beings who are a law unto themselves. Mantis
seizes Unum but by accident, Phyla-Vell’s sword pierces Shulkie, Mantis, and
Unum. Jen and Mantis meet Enmity in space, who explains that Unum is a gestalt
being, an amalgamation of multitudes of minions of powerful beings including
Annihilus, the Magus, Dormammu, and countless others, who appealed to Enmity
for deliverance from their masters. As a single being, they can indulge their
hatred of superpowered being and the glory goes to Enmity, starting with female
heroes and proceeding to the male—and Enmity enjoys it. But Jen tells Enmity
that she understands Unum: she is tired of being used for the purposes of more
powerful beings—and Enmity is no different except that instead of some lofty
goal like conquest or egomania, Enmity is manipulating her simply for
entertainment. So Unum impales Enmity on her spear and the cosmic villain blasts
everything back the way it was…
…Mantis and She-Hulk are nursed back to health by the Collector
and eventually Jen and Jazinda are returned to the construction site they
vanished from; the later learn that Max Farrell did indeed turn himself in
after his daughter’s wedding. And Valkyrie returns to the battlefield to find
the Sergeant dead….
