Review: Wait, Bucky Cap is back? When did he leave the Helicarrier? He was there in issue #5, isn’t the same battle going on? Or have the Mighty Avengers been fighting LMDs all night without proceeding further than the deck? But they have no trouble moving forward once Spider-Woman is in the lead? Far out…Looks like Toro is going to be whining over abandonment issues for a while…. D’Spayre? Cool, I guess. So—how did he get hold of the Cosmic Cube? And when was there an oil spill in the New York sewers since that is clearly crude petroleum wrapping the heroes in its icky tendrils?…Then we learn the deepest regrets of the heroes as though we were reading the backs of trading cards; this was potentially the most interesting part of the series but they had to cram too much into two pages…why does Human Torch look like an orange Chewbacca when he’s in flight?—Wait, what? The LMDs are drinking Torch’s blood? Wait, what? Torch HAS blood?...Whoa, vampire Ultron! The story has to get better now! (Ha!)…And Steve Cap is still a complete jerk, grinning madly as he punches Bucky Cap in the face!

Comments: The title comes from the song “Auld Lang Syne.” No inkers are credited for the series. Tony Stark does not appear in his Iron Man armor in this issue.

Avengers / Invaders #7 Review by (October 31, 2013)
Spider-Woman hasn't been seen since she helped the New Avengers in #3. I don't know how the Mighty Avengers know she did that, but they do. However they readily accept her back.

Now that Spider-Man has his secret identity back since One More Day/Brand New Day the writer is careful to have D'Spayre not call him Peter Parker despite using the real names of other heroes.

D'Spayre was created by the Dweller in Darkness from the fear engendered during the destruction of Atlantis and Lemuria (as revealed in Dr Strange (1988) #33). But in reality he was created by Chris Claremont in Marvel Team-Up #68 where Spider-Man teamed up with Man-Thing. Since then he's split his time mainly between fighting Dr Strange and getting involved with the X-Men family.

This issue adds to the explanation of why the Cosmic Cube has brought the Invaders from the past. It says D'Spayre used the Cube to amplify the feelings stirred up by the Civil War and Captain America's death. The demon feeds on such despair.

The Avengers' robotic foe Ultron was destroyed (not for the 1st time) in Mighty Avengers #6. But his consciousness fled to space where he took over the Phalanx and initiated Annihilation: Conquest. Of course he was defeated and destroyed (again). But in MAv#6 his face also appeared on a helicarrier computer screen, so it's from there that he has infiltrated the LMDs.

Avengers / Invaders #7 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

As the Mighty Avengers are being overwhelmed by the rebellious Life Model Decoys aboard the SHIELD Helicarrier, the battle is suddenly interrupted by a flying car, landing on the deck and skidding far enough to take oout several LMDs. From the car emerges the new Captain America (Bucky Barnes) and Spider-Woman come to rescue the Invaders and send them back to their own time….

The New Avengers are slogging though the sewers searching for the Cosmic Cube; on the way, Toro bemoans his abandonment by his comrades. Suddenly they come upon the demon D’Spayre, using the Cube to feed upon the accumulated regret in the world. The heroes confront him, but he immobilizes them by enwrapping them in sewer goo. D’Spayre then proceeds to describe the deepest regrets of each one of the Avengers in turn, building his own power and strength….

In the Virtual Reality prison, Human Torch has entered to aid in the release of Captain America (Steve Rogers) and the Sub-Mariner; instead he discovers he has been duped by the LMDs who have just captured him too. His flame shuts down and he falls to the Earth in shock. Outside we see that the LMDs are feasting on his blood….

The Mighty Avengers enter the Helicarrier and distract the LMD defenders while Wasp searches out Tony Stark in his cell. She takes out the guards with a couple of stings and frees Tony. He hot-wires one of the LMDs to discover who is behind all this—and receives a shock—it is Ultron—who is gaining in power via the blood of the Human Torch….

In the VR world, the pained Torch tells Cap to trust Tony Stark and he suddenly vanishes. Bucky Cap has entered the holding cells where he frees Cap from his glass tube prison, pulling him out of the false reality. Steve Cap sees Bucky Cap’s cyborg arm and assumes he is a robot enemy and attacks…
