Iron Man: Legacy #3 Review by (January 14, 2022)
Comments: Dreadknight was introduced in IRON MAN #101-102; this is his final appearance to date (2021). Radioactive Man (Chen Lu) goes back to JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #93 and has frequently appeared with the Masters of Evil. Tony’s mention of catastrophe theory refers to an actual mathematical concept. Tony refers to having learned fighting skills from Captain America; this took place in IRON MAN #125.

Review: So Doctor Doom has intervened (it will later be revealed that he’s been behind it all along but we’re not supposed to know that yet) and Dreadknight, a visually impressive bad guy, enters the fight, which is cool. Also cool is the revelation that Dreadknight hates Doom for trapping him in his armor and he isn’t going to be so careful in carrying out his orders. And we meet Dragana, a genuinely interesting character who could be the new Professor Yinsen but ends up the newer Tony Stark by issue #5. And the last page tells us that the Radioactive Man, late of the Masters of Evil, will be joining the melee next time around. The only misfire is the gag with Pepper and the LMD embarrassing Tony before the obnoxious Gyrich; doesn’t he hate Tony enough already without adding contempt?

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man: Legacy #3 Synopsis by T Vernon
In the wake of the deaths of his parents, Tony locks himself away in his lab, creating himself out of his grief while Jarvis speaks to the press. Tony makes a robot dog….

Dreadknight arrives in Transia to see Nina, the Romani woman who was aiding Iron Man’s mission against the Zmaj until she learned that Shellhead was only interested in absolving his employer of any blame. Dreadknight was dispatched by Doctor Doom, claiming to be the friend of the Romani; now Dreadknight breaks into Tony’s mobile lab and sends a description of its contents back to Doom who sends drones to collect the material. And then Doom is informed that the Iron Man captured was Tony Stark in person….

At the Zmaj camp, Tony is put in with their sole remaining Romani scientist Dragana who reveals that she was Svarog, using an image inducer. He discovers that she is building the Iron Men tech for them using Stark’s own plans, implying the presence of a spy in Stark’s company. He asks her why she hasn’t used her ingenuity to run away; she reveals that she lost her legs to a landmine long ago. Darko and another soldier enter to force Tony to make a video asking for ransom; instead he beats them up and promises to come back for Dragana after he has destroyed the transmitter controlling the Iron Men. He jury-rigs a jet harness and takes off into the sky, encountering Dreadknight on his winged black horse. The villain shoots him down; telling him that Doom wants him alive, Dreadknight intends to kill him to spite Doom and claim that Tony killed himself. The baddie has Tony at his mercy, until Tony points out that Dreadknight is standing on a landmine which explodes, knocking him out. Tony takes the villain’s lance and winged horse and takes off, deciding to escalate the war by blowing up a Chinese oil pipeline….

Back in the States, Henry Peter Gyrich bursts into Tony Stark's office to find Stark (actually an LMD) wearing a maid’s uniform and massaging Pepper Potts’ feet….

In China, Chen Lu, the Radioactive Man, is assigned to take revenge for the destruction of the pipeline….
