Last issue, the Abomination tricked the simple-minded Hulk into believing he was his friend. As his friend, he promised to fight the humans that constantly attack Hulk and ensure that he was left alone.

At Kennedy Space Center, the Hulk and Abomination enter as tomorrow’s scheduled launch of the experimental single-operator rocket, Auto-Star One, approaches. The gamma creatures quickly defeat the base soldiers. The Abomination announces to the military via the Command Broadcast System (a communication system linking all branches of the military) that they are holding the facility's ransom for $100 million dollars in uncut diamonds. Failure to comply within six hours will cause complete destruction of the base.

As the deadline approaches, General Thunderbolt Ross and Doc Samson make a desperate gamble. They broadcast a message from Betty Ross across the C.B.S. hoping she can dissuade the Hulk from destroying the base. Her image appears on every screen in the base, begging the Hulk to stop the Abomination. Her words eventually reach the Hulk, who turns on the Abomination when he destroys the nearest monitor playing her message. They fight briefly with a temporary victory going to the Abomination.

The Abomination climbs aboard Auto-Star One, planning to use it to escape to South America. Hulk recovers and continues the chase, grabbing the outside of the rocket as it takes off. As they climb into the upper atmosphere, Hulk climbs toward the cockpit. When the Hulk reaches his destination, they are barely out of Earth’s atmosphere. When the Hulk tears open the cockpit, Abomination kicks him free, causing him to plummet back to Earth toward Florida.

The damage by the Hulk causes the rocket to self-destruct with the Abomination still inside.
