Synopsis

By T Vernon
Rating: 4 stars
A duplicate of Avengers Mansion has appeared from nowhere with a power flux leaving the place in darkness. Black Widow is dispatched to explore it, crawling into the basement via elevator cable in the dark, communicating with Hank Pym via radio. As she comes to discover how similar this place is to theirs, Hank tries to open the place’s encrypted files but is denied. Natasha discovers a holding cell which has no counterpart in her reality. Hank theorizes the existence of a chronal displacement field—a mini-wormhole—draining the energy of the building to sustain itself. Strange readings lead Natasha to call Hank and Vision down to see what’s there. Readings show a dense chunk of displaced time behind a wall. Vision sticks his hand in and it results in an explosion. Behind the wall is a massive vault—but what’s inside? Captain America calls, asking Vision and Giant-Man to meet him at the Quinjet, so they must leave the mystery for another day….

Avengers, The (1963 series) #382 Review by (January 31, 2026)
Comments: First story: Part three of three parts. The wager between Hera and Ares was way back in issue #349 and there they used his Greek name Herakles. Le Circe was a real Manhattan restaurant (1974-2018). The big question: since she did not expect to encounter Ares, why was Hera, an immortal, heading to the restroom?

Second story: Prologue to the story in issue #385. Issue includes a pin-up of Giant-Man and Wasp by George Perez. Also published as part of MARVEL DOUBLE FEATURE, backed with a Giant-Man story not published separately.

Review: First story: A conclusion to the three-part tale of Exodus seeking revenge against Pietro and the High Evolutionary. It’s largely a big fight scene with some poignant bits for Bova, who has lost her best friend. But the story continues elsewhere and we’re left with the Herc and Cap parts which will be picked up sooner.

Second story: Difficult tale to piece together as we start a little way in with Black Widow exploring a dark place that is said to be a duplicate of Avengers Mansion only with the power out. The standout part is the rather stark and striking art by Matsuda, enhanced by Jansen, who does a great job of inking.
