Synopsis

Black Panther: The Man Without Fear (2011 series) #522 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

As New York City burns from the Fear, T’Challa, using the identity of Dr. Okwonko, and Foggy Nelson are in jail, accused of falsifying the former’s immigration papers, and menaced by their hostile cellmates. Okwonko knocks some of the bad guys around, wondering how they know all about the incident at Devil’s Diner. T’Challa and Foggy are released, bailed out by Becky Blake….

American Panther relates his history, his life and family destroyed by the actions of illegal immigrants as the Hate-Monger stirs up the mob….

T’Challa puts together a computer system that will work despite all communications being down. He confides in Sofija that he thought taking care of Hell’s Kitchen in Daredevil’s absence would be easy but it isn’t. He decides he needs to stop thinking like DD and act like himself….

At the rally, Hate-Monger tells American Panther and Julian Chambliss that he will need to take over a police station for the plan. A former police officer, APanther balks at the idea of mind-controlling cops to act against their oaths. Hate-Monger forces APanther to lick his shoes. Chambliss volunteers to do the same without being manipulated….

As the Hate-Monger’s banner is unfurled at a police station, Black Panther, watching from a rooftop, explains to Sofija the plan to break Hate-Monger’s possession of his followers. Black Panther sets a timer on the police roof, drops through a skylight and quickly neutralizes the officers in the building. As Hate-Monger plots the takeover of Manhattan, they discover Black Panther; American Panther attacks and subdues BPanther, which was part of his plan. Then Sofija is captured by the bad guys, also part of the plan. Then the timer ticks down and the power goes out in the building…and Black Panther now takes action….

Review / Commentaries

Black Panther: The Man Without Fear (2011 series) #522 Review by (March 12, 2025)

Review: So go back and read my review for issue #521 and here I add more appreciation of F. Francavilla’s artwork. He has a very distinctive, non-realistic style which can help or hurt a story but here I say it helps with his penchant for dark colors (he seems to love purple) lending it a gritty feel, ideal for a story about manipulated emotions.

Comments: Final appearance of Rebecca “Becky” Blake, who has been a part of the series since DAREDEVIL #155 in 1978, though with few appearances in recent years
