Rating: 4 stars

1940s: Movie newsreels celebrate the heroism of the super-soldier Captain America leading the fight against Baron Zemo and the Nazi menace!

Today: Captain America presents Baron Zemo to Dr Eric Solveig as their new partner in their scheme against the Red Skull. The two men have bad blood between them since the Standoff event but Cap tells them to get over it and work together....

Maria Hill is invited to Bagalia to meet with Taskmaster and Black Ant for some info which will restore her to the Directorship of SHIELD and bring down Captain America. They tell her about the video proof that Steve Rogers is a traitor and what they want in return is to have money diverted from the military budget to them....

SHIELD has a report of the Awesome Android wreaking havoc at the Museum of Natural History. Against Sharon Carter's advice, Cap dons the colors and goes down to deal with the situation personally. As Cap battles the monster, he recalls an incident during the war, when he was able to get away from Bucky to meet with Helmut Zemo to turn over to the villain top secret military info. Zemo has another mission for Cap, one involving Elisa Sinclair, who brought Steve Rogers to the attention of Hydra many years ago....

After Maria Hill is gone, Taskmaster and Black Ant rejoice in their expected wealth—but they are captured by Hydra. The new Madame Hydra tells them that they work for her now...and she unmasks as Elisa Sinclair....

Review / Commentaries

Captain America: Steve Rogers (2016 series) #12 Review by (February 26, 2017)
Comments: Artist Javier Pina is assisted by Andres Guinaldo on pencils and Scott Hanna on inks. First appearance of the new Madame Hydra (Elisa Sinclair). This is not the first time Cap has battled the Awesome Android without the Mad Thinker: see CAPTAIN AMERICA #311. According to the last page, the story expands in THUNDERBOLTS #11 and UNCANNY AVENGERS #22.

Review: Oh man, that Taskmaster cover is truly terrifying—too bad he's a doofus inside the issue. Meanwhile, as we said last time, this story arc is merely putting into place all of the elements of the upcoming SECRET EMPIRE event. We'll see what happens.
