Synopsis

Captain America: The 1940's Newspaper Strip #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

FBI Agent Mickey Flynn has been unmasked as the Red Skull, revealing that he had killed the real Flynn and taken his place and now he intends to steal all of the inventions at the secret lab for the Reich. Captain America is still strapped to the lab table and Skull shoots Betsy Ross to prevent her from freeing him. Bucky gets Cap loose and they take on the Skull who is using the remote-controlled S.A.M. robot to fight for him. The wounded Betsy frees Drs. Todd and Smythe while the battle goes crazy. After an exciting melee, Cap detonates a cache of grenades which blow open the cavern wall to reveal a rocky seacoast in Maine. But the Skull is not out yet; he reactivates the damaged S.A.M. for a final attack. With Smythe’s advice, Cap is able to rip out the robot’s radio receiver which sends it out of control and it seizes the Red Skull and they plummet into the ocean. Smythe wonders if the robot had somehow gained sentience to make it rebel against the Nazi villain….

They rush Betsy back to the base infirmary where it is learned she is dying from blood loss and her rare blood type will make it difficult to find a donor. Cap volunteers but the donor would likely die in the process. Cap and Betsy share a tender moment. Later, the men hear a noise from Betsy’s room and rush in to find Miss Vinegar dead; she had the same rare blood type as Betsy and, in an act of atonement, she transfused her blood into Betsy. Betsy recovers and Dr. Todd is finished testing Cap and Bucky….

Meanwhile at Camp Lehigh, a woman arrives, claiming to be Bucky’s mother….
