Synopsis

Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #50 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
The astral form of Doctor Strange appears in Brooklyn to summon Ghost Rider; at Pantheon Headquarters to call Professor Hulk; in deep space to enlist the Silver Surfer for an important mission. At his home in Greenwich Village, Strange explains to the others that he has lost most of his mystic abilities while his enemy Dormammu has grown in power, regained dominance of the Dark Dimension and imprisoned Clea, while preparing to invade our reality. When they agree to team up to stop the evil, Strange transports them to the Dark Dimension within sight of Dormammu’s Citadel. They are immediately attacked by the Mindless Ones, who are able to act intelligently thanks to Dormammu’s control. The heroes are overwhelmed until Strange breaks the villain’s control, leaving his minions mindless once more.

At the threshold of the Citadel, Hulk battles the G’uranthic Guardian (“I am really sick and tired of fighting big rocky guys”), allowing the others to take action. Strange dispatches the Surfer to enter and rescue Clea, while he draws Ghost Rider’s essence into his own body. Fortified by the Rider’s mystic power, Strange challenges the giant Dormammu to battle. When the archfiend seizes him, Strange springs his trap: leaving Ghost Rider’s essence to continue fighting in Strange’s body, the Sorcerer Supreme’s astral form enters Dormammu’s soul to confront the villain’s ego. This ego explains that here in the Dark Dimension Chaos is life and Order means death and his mission is to conquer the universe of Chaos. Strange strikes back with the Eye of Agamotto, revealing the ego’s true twisted form and calling on Dormammu to renounce his evil. Meanwhile, outside, Strange/Ghost Rider, Hulk, Silver Surfer and the freed Clea attack the monster’s enormous physical form. Annoyed, Dormammu announces he is leaving the Dark Dimension to them, while he seeks a greater dimension to conquer, and he vanishes. Strange restores Ghost Rider’s essence to his body and Clea tells Strange she will remain to help her people rebuild the Dark Dimension.

Back in New York, the Silver Surfer returns Hulk and Ghost Rider to their point of origin while Strange gains some much needed rest—only to awoken by the sound of protestors outside his home, denouncing him as the servant of Satan.
