Having slain Valkyrie, the Serpent’s Destroyer is emitting a wave of fear that brings all around, even the bravest of heroes to their knees. This amuses Crossbones (who is immune) as he guards the unconscious form of Sin whose mind is powering the monster. Nearby, Dr. Strange is studying the occult tome which contains the secret of defeating the Destroyer; he realizes Odin built its defeat into this plan—and that it would require a sacrifice….
The dead Brunnhilde is finally reunited in Valhalla with her beloved Sigmund. Yet after they brief moment of reunion, she realizes that she would not be happy there and that the dead are restless in the presence of a Valkyrie. With apologies to Sigmund, she heeds Strange’s summons back to Earth to complete her mission. Armed with her sword and the full might of her role as Valkyrie, Brunnhilde engages the giant monster and chops its hand off; with the loss of the hammers, the fear wave is broken. Captain America rallies the heroes to rise up against the fiends of the DOA while the Son of Satan seizes the opportunity to teleport away. With a shout of defiance, Val jams her sword straight into the huge robot’s face, killing it and forcing Sin’s consciousness painfully back into her body.
The next day, Dr. Strange apologizes to Val for forcing her back to this world, but she acknowledges it was her choice to return. Val, in turn, tries to apologize to Captain America for her actions, but he too understands. The chief result of her sacrifice is that the Valkyrior have now retuned to Midgard and each has taken one of the hammers, intending to scatter them in the hidden realms where they will never be seen again….
Val returns to Asgardia where the All-Mother confirms her suspicion that her death and return was an integral part of Odin’s plan. The return of the Valkyrior was also a part of that plan—a cadre of eight heroes, fearless in their battle against evil, to be chosen from among the heroines of Midgard—and Val will lead them….
Epilogue: the emotionally broken Sin is brought by Crossbones, Daimon Hellstrom, and their other minions to the Dunwich catacombs—the new headquarters of the Department of Occult Armaments….
