Invincible Iron Man #27 Review by (August 22, 2012)
Part 3 of 9, and it's still the Heroic Age. Pepper Potts' memories hold even more that Tony Stark has forgotten. He also told her that he'd always loved her (from right back in Tales of Suspense). Mrs Arbogast was with Stark for a long time. She was first seen as his secretary in #118 of the original series, after the previous incumbent, Krissy Longfellow, turned out to be Madame Masque. She lasted, with increasing rank in the company, all the way up until Iron Man disappeared into the Heroes Reborn universe. During the Heroes Reborn gap she started working for Iron Fist's new Heroes for Hire team. This was a subsidiary of Oracle, a company owned by Sub-Mariner set up in the Namor (1990) series. Stark refers to Director Hill. It seems Maria is back as Director of SHIELD, as well as running the Avengers.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Invincible Iron Man #27 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Tony Stark, Pepper Potts and Dr Lisk meet for lunch. Pepper wants a new Repulsor tech chest implant, as promised when she donated her old one to Tony to save his life in #21. Then she wants her Rescue armour again. She'll need new armour because Tony has recycled her old one, as he did for his own old suits last issue.

Tony reluctantly agrees. He's worried about the danger being an armoured heroine would put her in. He doesn't want to lose her. Pepper flashes back to them making love during World's Most Wanted, an event his brain reload in Stark Disassembled has wiped from his memory. She makes a cryptic statement suggesting that he's already lost her, which of course he doesn't get.

Then they meet with Mrs Arbogast, Tony's old P.A.. Since she left him she worked at Oracle. But after that she invested some savings in a business with a great-nephew, a company that got small farmers together with small businesses that needed their produce. This was a great success, and she sold her stake for a huge profit and now she's a woman of independent means.

She wants to work for him again, on his new plan to make Repulsor tech an inexhaustible green fuel for the world. Even though he can't pay her, and his company is basically him and Pepper at the moment. She's already located some young geniuses he might want to hire.

News comes in of trouble in Tokyo. Terrorists have struck in the underground. But Detroit Steel is there to save the day. (It turns out that Justine Hammer arranged the terrorist attack, to make Detroit Steel look good.)

Tony Stark and Bambi Arbogast watch as Dr Lisk begins the operation on Pepper. Tony laments that he's going to have to ask Reed Richards for the facilities to build Pepper's new Rescue suit, as he did for his own latest armour in #25.

They hear that the Tokyo situation has escalated, and Iron Man and War Machine head over there, letting SHIELD know their on their way. En route they see footage of Detroit Steel, who they've never seen before.

But Gen'l Babbage does recognise him, from Justine and Sasha Hammer's pitch to the military in #25. He contacts Justine at her press conference after the Tokyo situation is defused. She tells him that the Japanese government had signed on to the Hammer Industries Detroit Steel program. Babbage now recommends to the Secretary of Defence that the US hires them too (now that Stark isn't producing weapons anymore).

But Tony and Jim Rhodes are still on their way.
