Iron Man (1998 series) #47

Iron Man is being attacked by the Sons of Yinsen, ten enemies wearing copies of his sentient armor and cloaked and Iron Man is losing the fight. Inside Stark Enterprises, Sun Tao tells Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts the recent history of the Sons: it was decided to use Tony Stark’s sentient armor as the proper housing for Professor Yinsen’s brain—but after the operation, the formerly kindly Yinsen was now arrogant and aggressive, outfitting the Sons in Iron Man armors. Sun Tao tried to warn the others but was cast out of the society instead as a heretic. Yinsen and his cloaked army stole Askew’s SKIN technology and left the armored Sun Tao to take the fall. Outside, Iron Man tries to magnetize the enemy armors, trapping them all together but Yinsen easily clobbers Shellhead and hurls him into the building. The Sons then break in and carry off Sun Tao….

Jocasta returns to awaken Tony and he demands an explanation as to why she abandoned him; she explains that when the armor first became sentient the armor attacked Jocasta and performed the AI equivalent of raping her. Tony offers to leave her behind but she knows this is something she will have to face….

At the Church of Yinsen, Sun Tao is literally being sacrificed on an altar when Iron Man enters and disarms the High Priest. He uses Jocasta to ensure that the Sons’ armor absorbs light rather than reflecting it, taking them all down. But when he tries to free the cloaked worshippers, he learns they have been altered with the SKIN liquid metal, turning them into an army of cyborgs. As he grabs Sun Tao and tries to escape, Iron Man is brought down with a gesture from Yinsen. He reveals he can control Iron Man’s artificial heart and he is the one who gave the armor sentience; the then unmasks to stand forth as…Ultron….
