Iron and Frost (2025 series) #1

In the future an X-Virus devastated the Eastern US, killing most of the infected but turning the rest into mutants. Apocalypse' heir Revelation (Doug Ramsey) rules it as a mutant homeland with his enhanced power to command people with his voice, or to render opponents Babels unable to communicate. But some oppose him, both humans and mutants.

A hooded char follows signs through a plant-overrun New York which lead to a large hole in the ground where 'it all began and ended'.

6 years before, the virus has reached NY and some Seraphim (Carmella Unuscione, Marrow and Phaser) have followed it to enforce Revelation's will. They are opposed outside Avengers Mansion by Emma Frost, Firestar, Iron Man and War Machine. They are battling over a young mutant Eris and her human mother whose gas mask keeps her safe from the virus. Frost knows that the Seraphim want the girl to join their cult. During the battle Unuscione dislodges the mother's mask and the virus kills her in her daughter's arms. Carmella expects that Eris will gladly come with her now that her mother isn't stopping her. But of course the girl lashes out with her 'earthquake' power causing the killer to be impaled on spears of rock.

Emma tries to lead Eris away from the Mansion but Marrow intends to kill the girl for opposing the leader's will. Firestar tries to stop her but her microwave power goes out of control and she burns up until War Machine encloses her in cryo-dampening foam. Marrow's about to kill the young girl with 1 of her bone spears but Frost interposes herself and takes it in the chest. She telepathically hears Tony Stark scream her name as he remembers when they were married under false names (as part of a scheme in his 2023 series tying in to the Fall Of The House Of X event). Then the Mansion sinks into a hole in the ground taking Frost and Marrow with it. Emma changes to her secondary form, invulnerable diamond with no telepathic powers.

IM and WM break through the rubble to reach someone detected by a bioscan. But it's only Marrow who Stark beats (to death?). They can't detect Frost in her diamond form. They take Eris and Firestar to safety, and Tony swears to come back for Emma.

The hooded figure at the beginning is of course Emma Frost returned to the hole where Avengers Mansion went. She remembers how she painfully dragged herself up to the surface and headed west looking for friendly X-Men, but she found none. She's been trapped in her diamond form since then because if she switches back she'll die. But lately she's heard rumours and seen the signs which were glyphs of the Hellfire Club, which have led her back here and down the hole to the Mansion. Which has that sign on it denoting that it is the new HC. Suddenly she's restrained by spikes of rock caused by the grown up Eris who calls herself Landslide. She breaks free and says she's here to see Iron Man who she believes is looking for a cure for the virus. And then Tony joins them and we see that he is now truly a man of metal called the Iron King.
