Synopsis

Mortal Thor, The (2025 series) #11 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Sigurd Jarlson, the mortal Thor, faces Dario “the Minotaur” Agger in his office atop the Roxxon Building. Agger offers Sigurd $80,000 if he will walk away and leave Roxxon alone. But Sigurd points out that there will be a next time, Agger and Roxxon hurting someone innocent, and Sigurd has to be there for that person. Agger confesses that had Sigurd taken the money, the Minotaur would have killed him as he turned to leave. Agger bats Sigurd around and throws him against a window and the hero falls to the floor. Agger explains how he once joined forces with Xemnu the Titan and was devoured and distorted but when he returned no one noticed or mentioned it, proving the world tolerates monsters more than little people like Sigurd Jarlson….

Odin stands nearby in the lightning, musing on three judgments he foresees for his son. The first is to defeat his chosen foes, Agger and his henchmen, most of them already fallen (Cobra, Mister Hyde, Radioactive Man, the Grey Gargoyle)….

Agger lectures Thor on how the world works: only what generates money is of any value—and as he speaks Thor hurls his hammer at him, repeatedly bopping him on his face. Sigurd tells him what he hears is a man who only has speeches because there is no joy in his wealth. The Minotaur threatens to destroy him; Sigurd responds “Tear me to pieces then. Will that make me wrong?” The monster rushes at Thor who stretches the cord on his hammer, tripping Agger who goes crashing through the weakened window and plummets to his death. Odin muses over Thor’s victory but warns of the second judgment: the Shadow Self….

As Sigurd ponders his battle, Donald Blake walks in and offers to give him a performance review to see which of them deserves it more….

Mortal Thor, The (2025 series) #11 Review by (June 10, 2026)

Review: On the face of it, this issue is primarily talk, a conversation between the two antagonists capped off by a violent death. But we’re used to that with Al Ewing and it’s usually provocative talk. Here we see Dario Agger’s worldview, a society that is interested solely in wealth, with most people having little concern for the mass of humanity that can profit them nothing. But those are the people Thor is bound to protect. And it’s capped off with the villain going to his death because Thor knew which strings to pull (literally). The visuals are a bit bland as befits a comic that is mostly dialogue, but, as I’ve said, that dialogue is great.

Comments: Lukki appears on the cover but is not in the story. Dario Agger’s battle with Hulk and Xemnu was in IMMORTAL HULK #26-33. Issue includes a tribute to the late Sam Kieth, Marvel Comics writer-artist, best known for THE MAXX for Image Comics.
