Blake” with empty sockets oozing green, to which he adds his eyes; he lectures his group, the new Sons of the Serpent, on mankind’s need for a stern angry god, presenting himself as such for the Serpents. They pledge loyalty, calling him father. A Serpent reports to Blake on their search for the man who attacked the Rough House (last issue), listing the names of six possible culprits. Blake picks out Sigurd Jarlson and dispatches his men….

Sigurd Jarlson has nightmares about his violent confrontation with the biker gang at the Rough House, dreaming that Thor appears to him, telling him, “Where there is wrong, you break the sky to right it….”

Sigurd applies for a job at Sapristi Steel Company as an ironworker. The interviewer is Jen Sapristi, who recalls that her uncle employed a man named Sigurd Jarlson. She asks to see his certification but Sigurd hasn’t any…until Lukki appears at the window, telling him to look in his bag. Sigurd then finds all the paperwork needed to secure the job….

On the job, Sigurd is impressive, needing only one hand and his small hammer to pound in rivets. The Sons of the Serpents arrive, with orders to kill only Sigurd Jarlson so they fire only tranquilizer darts at the workers as they ascend the girders with gravity boots. Sigurd sees them coming so he clips his hammer to his wrist strap with bungee cord and does battle, taking down the villains, the last one landing on the hood and windshield of a police car….

Kristin Seok gets the call from Sigurd in jail, she promises to bring a lawyer. After she departs, Lukki is approached by Odin, having followed the magic trail of the certification, demanding the boy give account of himself….

Mortal Thor, The (2025 series) #3 Review by (October 29, 2025)

Review: Sigurd’s life is settling into the usual superhero groove, getting his alter ego a job and introducing another supporting character. And again he is fighting bad guys, now part of a sinister organization with a mysterious leader (surely, this can’t be Don Blake?). The Sapristi name connects us to the 1980s run and the last page appearance of Odin promises to make this more than just, Mortal Thor beats up bad guys. The content is more violent than the standard Marvel stuff (unless comics I’m not reading have also gone in for blood and gore) yet it works to show this Thor is harder on the bad guys than the previous one(s). Pasqual Ferry’s art walks a fine line between realistic and cartoony and I like it a it allows the comic to have a foot in both worlds. More to come.

Comments: First appearance of Jennifer Sapristi, niece of Jerry Sapristi who employed Thor the first time he was Sigurd Jarlson and also appeared with Eric Masterson Thor; introduced in THOR #341, last appearance in THUNDERSTRIKE #9. First appearance of the new Sons of the Serpent.
