Synopsis

Secret Avengers (2014 series) #2 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

SHIELD Agents Nick Fury Jr. and Phil Coulson are in space, slowly falling toward Earth; their one consolation is that their monstrous foe, The Fury, is ahead of them, heading for the sun….

Meanwhile, Black Widow, Spider-Woman, and Hawkeye, suitably space suited, are in the SHIELD Flying Convertible, zooming toward the space station Misericordia, in hopes of rescuing Fury and Coulson, with Hawkeye complaining that he is not a member of the Secret Avengers any longer. Jessica is wondering if she is sufficiently experienced to be dealing with space and the car’s top pops into place, making them ready to leave Earth’s atmosphere. The big red button sends them flying by rocket….

On the SHIELD Helicarrier Iliad, Director Maria Hill has been wounded by a nameless assassin who is explaining why she must die, something to do with his parents. He stands over her, pistol in hand….

Down in his lab, M.O.D.O.K. and his staff watch the news as SHIELD’s defunct satellites start to fall from space and there are 250 of them ready to fall. Assistant Snapper asks what they are going to do about Director Hill. M.O.D.O.K. ponders and decides to rescue her as that’s what heroes do….

Fury and Coulson ponder their imminent deaths, Black Widow and company board the space station, M.O.D.O.K. watches more satellites fall to Earth, and a mysterious object moves through the vents toward Maria Hill….

Natasha, Jessica, and Clint shut the appropriate switches and the satellites stop falling while M.O.D.O.K. wonders how….

The assassin prepares to shoot Hill and then he feels a jab on his ankle. He looks down and sees a mouse with a hypo taped to its back. He collapses and M.O.D.O.K. instructs his lab staff to clap for him. Hill reminds him that Fury and Coulson are still in danger and they do have agents in place that can save them…

…so as Fury and Coulson, resigned to death, say their final farewells, the team in the Flying Car tosses M.O.D.O.K.’s Nanobot Blanket over them and tows them back to Earth. But M.O.D.O.K. is upset that Hill took his secret device and used it without his permission; Hill reminds him that he works for her and tells him not to be upset that the blanket was used to save lives and not take them. And she reminds him that in the Secret Avengers, there are no rules….

Secret Avengers (2014 series) #2 Review by (October 13, 2026)

Review: And everyone is rescued, with a sweet (if premature) farewell for Coulson and Fury, complaining from Hawkeye, hard-edged business by Hill, elation by a surprisingly effective M.O.D.O.K. and now that everyone is safe, things can go ahead as intended, which means just as chaotic a comic romp.

Comments: “All-New Marvel Now!”—Cover. Despite appearances, The Fury shows up in nearly every issue of this series.
