After the sudden disappearance of several superheroes (last issue), Vision, acting head of the Avengers, gives a press conference, telling the public that there is nothing to fear, the Avengers are working with the authorities to maintain order. On their way to a conference at the Mansion, Henry Peter Gyrich and Ray Sikorsky listen to the speech and Gyrich worries that Vision will only make things worse. As Vision tries to calm the people about civil unrest, Starfox enters a bank to deal with a band of robbers and beats them all up, turning his pleasure inducing power on the leader to make him happy to release his hostage and surrender to the police. The press leave, skeptical about Vision’s assurances. Vision phases through the ceiling, startling Mockingbird and reassuring her that Hawkeye is probably safe. Vision joins Scarlet Witch in the communications center where she reports on her success in contacting former and reserve Avengers in case they are needed. A fire alarm comes in so Wanda heads out to deal with it. Vision contacts ISAAC, the Titan supercomputer to vent about his plans to assemble a new group of Avengers minus the big names but fears the public would not trust him….
In Attilan on the Moon, home to the Inhumans, Crystal and Quicksilver are concerned about raising a human baby among the Inhumans; Crystal suggests a nanny from Earth but one who could cope with non-human types, Pietro knows just the person….
Wanda arrives at the scene of the fire and learns there are firefighters trapped inside. She uses a massive amount of hex power to prevent oxygen from entering the building so that the flames go out. The firefighters hurry to get their people out and hose the place down so that the fire does not reignite when the oxygen rushes back in….
Gyrich and Sikorsky arrive at Avengers Mansion to be greeted by Jarvis. Gyrich grumbles about the lack of security but the butler silences him by describing the real security system which would have dropped them before they had gone very far. The two enter to find Vision with a huge piece of technology on his head, running a systems check. Gyrich isn’t happy with Vision’s press conference and they have a talk….
A bright light illuminates the sky, the same as when the mechanism appeared that spirited away the missing heroes. The Avengers rush to Central Park to find their people returned: Captain America, Thor, Wasp, Hawkeye, and Captain Marvel. Iron Man is also there and takes his leave. She-Hulk, now a member of the Fantastic Four, filling in for the pregnant Sue Richards, returns to the Mansion to collect her stuff. Jen encounters Monica who has tried to contact her parents but gotten no answer. Jen advises her to reveal her superhero identity to them soon. The Avengers gather for a meeting. Starfox is promoted to full member. Wasp announces her plans to step down as chairman in favor of Vision. Hawkeye suggests Cap for the position but he declines and seconds the Vision’s nomination. Vision is elected and establishes a new category of detached members, for Thor and She-Hulk to be called upon in an emergency while still maintaining their primary commitments. Vision proposes a second group, called the West Coast Avengers, to be headed up by Hawkeye, which has already been cleared with the government via Ray Sikorsky. And then he mentions an impending threat called the Dire Wraiths….
