Synopsis

The Mighty Thor #12 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Inside the Demogorge, Thor strikes at the monster’s heart, killing it from within….

Meanwhile Geirrodur leads his trolls against Asgard and the city’s defenders battle for the safety of their home. Heimdall is locked in single combat with the troll champion Ulik, and the guardian destroys the amulet which allowed Ulik to impersonate the new Thunder God Tanarus. Suddenly a bolt of lightning freezes all the combatants in their tracks—Thor descends from the sky, accompanied by his two divine companions and in a flash everyone remembers him and hails his arrival. Thor challenges Ulik to battle and the troll leaps to meet him. Freyja also leads her troops in battle and Karnilla rises to confront her. The two Asgardians are victorious at the same time and the Queen traps Ulik and Karnilla together in a skull and Thor hurls it where it can never be found. Asgardia is proclaimed a home to all from the Nine Worlds and beyond….

We discover that Loki has been recounting the tale to a group of children, assuring them that Thor is back for good. A child asks about the dark fate for the Lady Kelda, slain by Karnilla. Loki reveals that she is now in Valhalla, reunited with her beloved Bill….

Review / Commentaries

The Mighty Thor #12 Review by (March 5, 2013)
Review: A new artist completes the tale in a different style, with the layouts a throwback to an earlier era with evenly spaced panels and clean borders. An initially intriguing story fizzles out, being much less creative than we were led to believe with that “new Thunder God’ buildup. The mock fairy tale narration covers the fact that there really isn’t much to the story beyond good guys beating up bad guys. Plus, Iron Man and the two deceased gods have no real point in the story, and one wonders why they were even included, especially Iron Man who is almost an extra in the background. Okay issue with a lot of rejoicing—and a happy romantic ending—but no big deal.

Comments: The cover carries the “Shattered Heroes” banner.
