Story Name:

The War Thor

Synopsis

The Mighty Thor #21 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

Nidavellir, the home of the dwarves, is being bombarded with laming maggot bombs by the Fire Riders of Muspelheim. Suddenly, the War Thor (formerly Volstagg) appears on the battlefield and uses his mighty hammer and powers over lightning to destroy the enemy forces. Thor is blasted from behind and turns to see the Enchantress and Ulik, mocking him. Amora casts a spell to sen Thor to Hel and he deflects it with his hammer, astonishing her long enough for him to hurl his hammer and press her to the ground. Ulik assaults Thor and finds his blows to not affect the hero; too bad Thor's punches hurt the Troll. As Thor is about to execute Ulik with his hammer, Amora casts a spell transporting herself and Ulik away. In a moment of clarity, Volstagg realizes he is no killer but under the control of the hammer....

The War Thor calls down rain upon the land and that is when he is found by Roz Solomon. She is shocked when she recognizes Volstagg, who immediately sets off to bring the battle to Muspelheim's Queen of Cinders. Roz sets out to find Thor....

In Asgardia, Thor Odinson rushes the dying Jane Foster to the Hall of Medicine. Instead she calls for Mjolnir and when she touches it, she is the Mighty Thor once more....

The Mighty Thor #21 Review by (July 24, 2017)
Comments: Last issue featured the origin of the War Thor.

Review: An auspicious debut for the War Thor and guest artist Valerio Schiti does a spectacular job of depicting the battles with the Fire Goblins, not to mention colorist Veronica Gandini—and seeing Ulik get beaten up is one of my secret pleasures. Sad to say, this issue also confirms that Jane Thor will not be with us much longer, though she has done a much better job at being Thor than the original has in years, it will be a shame to see her go; this title has been one of Marvel's best titles over the last couple of years.
