Comments: Part two of two parts. The art for the present day section is done by the usual team of Dauterman and Wilson, the Viking portions are supplied by Rafa Garres.

Review: “Thor versus Viking Hulk” could easily have been the title for this tale: throwback issue (along with the last one) is a treat, carrying us back to the early days of (original) Thor as we saw often in Jason Aaron's first run with the character in THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. Simple little mythic tale is well-handled and enjoyable. Rafa Garres' painted art is initially startling but captures the ancient and chaotic feel nicely, though I wouldn't want to see it as a regular thing. But I would like seeing the cloddish Viking Thor beaten up regularly, as something has to turn him into the noble warrior of Lee and Kirby's creation.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

The Mighty Thor #7 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Loki continues his tale: Thor is beaten by Bodolf the Black, a Hulk-like Viking who conquers the lands with his army but when a maiden prays to Thor for deliverance, the God of Thunder returns in power. The brutal brawl between Thor and Bodolf shakes all of Midgard; Loki arrives to cheer Bodolf on but the giant Viking turns on the God of Mischief, allowing Thor a second wind (thanks to wine and wenching). Thor returns and knocks his foe all the way through the Earth and confronts Loki. The two bicker and wait for another day to settle scores. …

Dario Agger asks Loki what was the point of this tale? Loki takes Agger and his elite strike team to a cave where they kill a dragon and the soldiers drink its blood, achieving the same results as Bodolf. In return, Loki asks Agger to build him a church....
