Tyr
and Vidar stand on the battlements of Asgard, watching an invading army led by
a frost giant approaching the gates and wondering if this is Ragnarök. At the
main gates, Hildegarde and others prepare for battle as the ram batters the
gate. Thor persuades the Winter God who guards the imprisoned Loki to allow him
access to the prisoner. Thor frees Loki and asks him if this is Ragnarök. Loki
says no because then he would be leading it. Thor thinks Loki is lying and
beats him to force him to tell the truth, even holding his head underwater.
Loki suggests that Thor is angry not because Loki is lying but because Loki
claims that the fall of Asgard will have a beneficial outcome….
Odin
summons Tiki, God of Stone, Asgard’s architect, to ask about a fissure
spreading through the city. Tikis says it will split Asgard and nothing can
stop it….
Thor
insists that no good can come of Asgard’s fall just as no good can come of
Loki’s lies. Loki then rattles off several scenarios in which good does come
from lies, many being to avoid hurting feelings, or as a strategy in war, or to
protect someone, even noting that Thor’s claims to love Loki are lies.
Everything has a purpose….
As
the city continues to split in two, Thor ties Loki between two pillars
straddling the fissure. Loki tells Thor he is just lying to himself. Thor goes
outside and examines the fissure, finding a small plant growing within….
