Thor #359 synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Enthralled by the love potion given him by Lorelei, Thor is adamant in his decision to support Loki for the throne of Asgard. Heimdall hurries to bring Thor’s mother Freyja who detects a magical scent in the air. She summons the Enchantress who recognizes the Elixir of Lofn and concludes Loki is behind it all. She tries to break the spell with a kiss but it fails. Lorelei then arrives, gloating over her hold on Thor….

On Earth, Sif bids Beta Ray Bill farewell and returns to Asgard…

…walking in on the messy situation. Learning the details Sif attacks Lorelei but Thor backhands her across the room. Lorelei asks for and receives Thor’s cloak and departs. Heimdall persuades Amora to confess that she cast the spell on Odin’s scepter that made Lorelei fall in love with Loki (in ish #357) and suggests a way out of the current problem. Shortly, the Enchantress advises Thor to hurry to Loki and offer his support….

Interlude: at the New York bar, the Warriors Three have drunk their enemies under the table and take their leave….

Thor arrives at Loki’s palace to discover him and Lorelei in a compromising position. The jealous Thunder God assaults Loki, trying to ignore Lorelei’s pleading. He hurls his hammer into the air and then holds Loki by the neck, knowing that when Mjolnir returns to his hand it will break Loki’s neck. Loki is forced to lift the love spell and Thor releases him in the nick of time. He pulls his cloak from Lorelei, flipping her onto the bed and returns to apologize to Sif. The lady warrior then reveals her plan to return the stranded Asgardians home. Shortly thereafter from Central Park, onlookers are amazed and Thor and Beta Ray Bill spin their magic hammers in unison opening a vortex to return the prodigals to the Golden Realm….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #359 Review by (January 7, 2014)
Review: All’s well that ends well, as Walt Simonson wraps up the last details of the invasion of Asgard arc, plus the romantic comedy Thor was entangled in. The Thunder God in love was a highly amusing sight and the sequences of the threatening Mjolnir and the final return are amazingly done.

Comments: The couple on the last page is Walt and Louise Simonson. The tourist and his cowboy son Nico are slipped into several of Simonson’s works; they’ve previously appeared in THOR #337. The final panel also teases the guest appearance of the Warriors Three in POWER PACK #15.
