At the Baxter Building, Rhodey is testing a metal glove he calls War Machine while Nifara questions his methods. Obadiah Stane stops by to insult Rhodey while trying to turn him against Tony….

At Stark Enterprises, Tony shows his father a giant prototype of the Iron Man armor because it’s easier to do the preliminary work on a supersized version. Tony then demonstrates for Howard the regular-sized version, which is impervious to any known projectile, standing as multiple weapons are fired at him. Howard then triggers the jet boots, making Tony fly helplessly around the testing range and laughing….

Tony reveals that he has made a deal with Rhodey to trade the War Machine for the Iron Man suit. Howard doesn’t like that, insisting they should never give away technology, just offer money. Tony talks Howard into it….

At Sing Sing Prison, Zebediah Stane is rescued by a hit man who kills a guard and drives him out in a delivery truck. He is taken to a reservoir where he realizes the hit men are about to kill him, telling him that they were hired by Howard Stark….

Howard and Tony are preparing for a party. Howard advises Tony to avoid alcohol as they don’t know how it will affect Tony’s system. Besides, it’s not intoxication that worries Howard, it’s dependency. At the party, Howard is called away, leaving Tony to fend for himself. So Tony tries some champagne and likes it….

Howard is taken to the morgue where he is shown Zebediah Stane’s corpse. He immediately figures out how the gruesome murder was committed, using a framelike device to tear him in half. Howard is then placed under arrest because of a single hair of his found at the scene….

Tony surprises the Stark Board members by announcing that he has been named his father’s proxy in all matters dealing with the company. Howard’s lawyer tells him they have enough to hold him for trial so Howard asks Si Ma to keep an eye on Tony. She arrives to discover that Tony has taken up drinking; he defends himself by telling her that for the first time in his life he feels no pain, brushing off her concerns about impaired judgment. From the window, Tony sees a ferry heading for their building so he climbs inside the giant prototype. Police report that the ferry was hijacked by terrorists, holding passengers hostage and carrying explosives. Tony swims underwater to reach the ferry, then boards it, taking down the terrorists. He seizes the van full of explosives but a bad guy detonates it. The ferry sinks and Tony is rescued from the shattered armor and rushed back to the office….
