Synopsis

Widowmaker #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

The Supreme Soviets (Crimson Dynamo, Perun, Fantasma, and Sputnik) have captured Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Black Widow, and Dominic Fortune, believing that Hawkeye, as Ronin, is the secret leader of the Dark Ocean Society, a team massacring Russian and Japanese agents. The two teams begin to fight. Fantasma uses her hypnotic power to make it look as though the dead Red Room trainees are still alive, moving like zombies and attacking the heroes. Sputnik uses his powers to render the Americans’ weapons inoperable. Then Crimson Dynamo breaks Hawkeye’s arms while Perun slays Mockingbird with a blow of his axe. Natasha concentrates and forces herself to see through Fantasma’s illusions to know that her teammates are alive and still fighting and that there are no zombies in the room. Dominic Fortune clobbers Fantasma over the head, causing her illusions to vanish, and he dashes a bucket of water over Perun, electrocuting him. He persuades Bobbi to go with him, leaving Clint and Natasha behind. But Natasha has defeated Sputnik and takes his sash which is the remote control for Crimson Dynamo; they open the armor and overpower the young guy inside. He reveals that the Supreme Soviets were to distract them from the main events going on in St. Petersburg…

…where the Ambassador’s guards search his house for assassins and they are quickly killed. The Ambassador enters, looking around for anyone; Black Widow has Steve Rogers call him and tell him of a secret escape route so that he crashes though a window just ahead of the killers and into the hands of a field team….

Mockingbird and Fortune are on their way to Japan in search of Ronin, with Fortune telling her Hawkeye has been compromised as it can’t be a coincidence the villain is using his alternate identity….

And Black Widow and Hawkeye are in Russia, Nat telling Clint about a killer named Sadko after her. Clint is worried about Bobbi while Nat looks at footage of the St. Petersburg killer and finds their movements familiar….

At his base, Ronin ponders the list of targeted spies. A minion dashes in with news and sees his master’s uncovered face. He accepts his punishment and calmly stands still to be decapitated. Ronin goes back to pondering his targets: Mockingbird and Black Widow….
