Captain America and Warbird discover the wounded Wolverine in the sewer but something isn’t right, his wounds are not healing. Suddenly, the members of the rogue black-ops team The Contingency appear, with weapons trained on the heroes. Cap pulls Warbird and the Wolverine to safety as the villains open fire. Rapture orders her team to scatter and meet at the rendezvous point late. Wolverine, though critically injured, insists they pursue the baddies instead to taking him to a hospital. Discovering their quarry has split up, the heroes also divide their forces to recover the stolen chip….

Meanwhile, at SHIELD HQ, Sharon Carter orders the cover-up of the files on The Contingency, the rogue project that she supervised….

In the sewer, Warbird catches up to two of the villains; she takes on the heavily-armed Condor, overlooking the mousy Kite. Bad move, as the wimpy tech expert is able to attach a motor disruptor to her, paralyzing her long enough for them to get away. Elsewhere Cap easily defeats the braggart Killdeer but silent, deadly Shrike gets the drop on him. Warding off his gunfire with his shield, Cap makes a valiant stand, prompting Killdeer to set off a bomb. Warbird swoops in and snatches Cap to safety as it explodes. And Wolverine, in another tunnel, is trying to fight off Rapture but the telepath can anticipate his every move. He tricks her by slicing through her exo-suit creating a feedback that causes her to emit energy at an alarming rate; screaming "You killed me!" she launches herself at her foe. Cap and Warbird hear Logan’s death cry from nearby….
